Chapter 33-To Daydream, To Deny
I can't believe that Harry is finally going to confess his feelings for me tonight. Hermione thought as she jumped onto her bed; giggling into her pillow.
I'm still amazed that he dumped Ginny for me. Then after a moment she rolled over and looked at her clock. It read 8:24pm.
Just a half an hour and Harry and I will be a couple. She thought anxiously as she looked at herself in the mirror.
Then she picked up her brush and ran it through her hair a few times as she began to imagine what the night was going to be like.
Then she got up and strolled down to the common room and sat on the couch. She leaned back and closed her eyes.
"Trying to forget about me now?" drawled a familiar voice.
She opened her eyes to see Draco sitting beside her on the couch, leaning in towards her.
"Malfoy...wh-what do you want?" She spat.
"The same thing you want, Granger." He replied in a low tone.
"How would you know what I want?" She snapped. "And why are you here?"
"Because you want me here." he said simply.
"I...what?" She gasped.
He smirked then placed a finger over her lips.
"You want me to be here." he said with a sly grin.
"I do not!" She snapped swatting his hand away. "For your information, I've finally gotten my dream guy, so go away!"
He chuckled coldly. "Potter is your dream guy? I don't believe that." he replied chuckling coldly.
She glared at him as he continued on. "You're only going out with him to try to get over me!"
"That's not true!" She hissed as she felt tears forming at the corners of her eyes.
"Oh but it is." he drawled. "If I were to tell you that I wanted you more than anything else in the world, you'd dump Potter in a heartbeat for me, wouldn't you?"
She bit her lip hard, and quickly looked down.
"You would dump Potter to be with me, wouldn't you?" he emphasized as he watched her reaction.
Then he placed a finger under her chin and tilted it up to where they were looking into each others eyes. "Wouldn't you?" he repeated gently.
"Yes..." she replied just above a whisper as she felt the tears escape her eyes and roll down her cheeks. "I...would..." she added in a shaky tone.
His arrogant smirk then turned to a warm smile.
"Everything's okay now, Hermione. I'm here." He said gently.
Then he ran his hand through a few strands of her hair.
"No...stop..." She sobbed. "I...I can't be with you, I have to go see Harry."
"But you don't really want to see him." He replied.
"Yes...I do. I mean he finally wants me..." She mumbled hesitantly.
"But I want you too." He whispered as he continued to run his fingers through her hair.
Those words made her gasp. "You...do?" she asked in a choked up voice.
"Yes Hermione, I do." he said gently as he slowly embraced her.
The warmth of his touch made her feel relaxed and content.
"Draco..." She whispered.
"Hermione..." he whispered as his lips touched hers.
"Huh!" She gasped as her eyes flew open.
She looked around quickly and then sighed.
"It was just another dream. One similar to the one I had in class earlier today, but still it was just a dream." She mumbled out loud.
Then she leaned against the back of the couch, rubbing her head. Why am I still thinking about that ferret? I mean I should take Madame Pomfrey's advice and move on. She thought letting out a deep sigh. That's part of the reason why I am going to start dating Harry. No wait, what am I saying! I'm dating Harry because I've wanted him for a long time and Draco has nothing to do with it!
Just then she heard the portrait door open and listened as someone walked in.
She turned her head and looked to see Draco walk around the couch and then plop down at the other end of it.
She blinked but said nothing as she quickly turned her gaze to the crackling fire.
Draco let out a sigh and then rolled his eyes, avoiding eye contact with the Gryffindor girl.
He was still shocked from what she had done for him at dinner, and annoyed at what he'd just heard while eavesdropping on the three plotting Gryffindors.
I should tell her about them. I really should but...how do I say it? He wondered.
Hermione sat staring into the fire, recalling the dream that she'd just had. Why was I dreaming about Draco when I'm about to finally become Harry's girlfriend? She wondered.
She sat there thinking for the longest time. I wonder what sort of romantic things that Harry has planned for tonight. She sighed then looked to Draco out of the corner of her eye.
I bet Draco would have some romantic things planned. And then she closed her eyes, imagining what a romantic meeting with Draco would be like.
What she saw took her breath away. Flower petals carpeted the floor of the Astronomy Tower while long, slender, neatly trimmed, vines bearing an assortment of roses, dangled over a perfectly formed archway. And in the middle of the room would be the charming Slytherin himself, dressed up and neatly groomed. And suddenly she found herself in yet another daydream.
"You look absolutely beautiful, Hermione." He said as he slowly reached out and kissed her hand.
"Thank you, Draco, you look quite charming yourself." She replied with a warm smile on her face.
"I know that this was supposed to be a simple meeting but I wanted it to be special because you are special." He added as he reached into his pocket.
She blinked as he pulled out a small black, velvet box.
"I got this for you." He said as he handed it to her.
She took it and opened it slowly. What she saw made her gasp.
Inside the box was a sparkling, diamond necklace.
"Oh my gosh!" She gasped. "This must have been so expensive!"
He simply shrugged. "You deserve nothing but the best." He declared warmly as he slid his arms around her waist.
She sighed then said, "Everything is so perfect here but I can't help but wonder what my meeting with Harry would have been like?"
And then suddenly she realized what she'd just said.
End Daydream-
Her eyes flew open and traveled to the clock that now read 8:38pm.
"Oh no!" She gasped as she jumped up shaking away the remnants of the daydream.
"What?" Draco asked curiously.
"I can't believe that I lost track of time." she mumbled, ignoring him completely.
"Why worry about it? You're just going to get hurt anyway." He snapped bitterly.
However, she refused to listen to him.
Just don't pay him any attention. She said to herself. It was all just a dream! Let it go. Focus on tonight. Focus on becoming Harry's girlfriend.
She thought, trying to clear her head. Then she began straightening her skirt. I need to look somewhat nice.
"I wonder if I should change clothes." She mumbled out loud as she started to walk in front of him.
"Granger!" Draco snapped as he jumped up in front of her.
She froze for a brief moment as she looked to him. Then she shook her head and tried to walk around him but he cut her off.
She tried again a few more times but he refused to let her pass.
"Look, I don't have time for games, Malfoy! Now move out of my way!" She hissed at him.
"Make me." He sneered.
She tried to walk past him again but he stepped in her way.
"Stop it! I have to go!" She shouted now in an annoyed tone.
"You're not going to meet Potter, Granger. In fact, you're not going anywhere!" He snapped bitterly.
"Oh yes I am and you are not going to ruin this for me!" She hissed pulling out her wand.
He pulled out his as well.
"Get out of the way, Malfoy!" She snapped raising her wand. "Or I'll hex you!"
"Expelliramus!" He shouted, blasting her wand out of her hand.
She gasped at him.
"Malfoy, what has gotten into you?" She demanded.
"I said, you're not going anywhere, Granger!" He snarled stalking towards her.
She began backing away nervously; seeing the burning anger in his eyes.
Her back hit the cold stone wall and she shuddered.
"Why...are...you doing this?" She whimpered as he moved in closer to her.
"Because...I don't want to see what's going to happen tonight!" He growled in a dangerously low tone as he slowly put his wand away.
"This is pointless." She said, trying to regain her courage. "Even if you stop me from going tonight, you can't stop me from going to classes tomorrow and seeing Harry then!"
He moved in closer to where their bodies were now touching.
"Look, I have something to tell you, Granger! Potter isn't really-" He began.
"No, I have something to tell you, Malfoy!" She snapped cutting him off as she felt her temper rising. "You either back off right this minute or tomorrow I will go to McGonagall." She warned as she glared at him. "I may even say something that could get you thrown into...Azkaban!" She added as her eyes gleamed maliciously at him.
An uneasy look crossed his face and he hesitantly took a few steps back from her.
She moved away from the wall and snatched her wand off of the floor. Then she flipped her hair over her shoulder and let out a faint sigh. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go meet with my future boyfriend!" She snapped as she briskly walked passed him.
"Granger! Wait! Potter's not serious he...It's all a trick! Granger!" he shouted out as he spun around, but she was already gone.

Chapter 34- An Empty Kiss and A Stirring Of Feelings
"It's already 9:15, where is she?" Harry muttered aloud as he stood pacing in the Astronomy Tower.
He sighed loudly and then adjusted his glasses.
Ten minutes later, the door to the room opened and in rushed a breathless Hermione. "H-Harry..S-sorry I'm late, had to dodge Snape on the way." She lied, breathing quickly.
"It's alright, I'm just glad that you came." He replied forcing a smile on his face.
She smiled back though she was feeling uneasy again, more this time though because she and Harry were actually alone.
"So, as I said before, I dumped Ginny." He said breaking the awkward silence.
"Yeah." She mumbled nodding slowly.
He then paused a moment. Should I really go through with this? He wondered. And then he took a deep breath, nodded and looked to her.
"And, now I want to be with you, so how about it?" He asked quickly.
Hermione blinked rapidly.
This wasn't at all what she had been expecting. She was expecting a romantic encounter not a simple question worded without any feeling. And she hesitated for the moment, unsure of how to respond.
He tilted his head at her. "What's wrong, Hermione?" He asked, as he reached out and grabbed her hand and held it.
His touch was only slightly warm, but was nothing at all like Draco's had been.
"Nothing." She mumbled slowly, forcing a faint smile on her face. "I'm just still surprised over this, is all." She added quickly.
"That's understandable; after all you have wanted this for a long time, right?" He replied with a light chuckle.
I have? She found herself wondering. And then she nodded hesitantly.
"Well, then I guess that's it then. We're dating now." He stated anxiously.
"Uh...well." She mumbled slowly as she looked to him.
"I know something...else you've been wanting too." He said with a slight smile.
"What?" She asked hesitantly.
"This." He replied as he leaned towards her.
This had been what she was waiting for and she was prepared to throw herself into the long awaited passionate kiss that he was about to give her. Her heart began racing as he moved in even more.
She closed her eyes, anticipating the perfect moment that was about to come.
And then his lips touched hers.
Immediately, she felt a strong wave of.... disappointment, nausea, along with many other unpleasant feelings; wash over her. No, what is this? She thought.
There was no warmth, no strange overwhelming feeling like she'd had with Draco. No, this long awaited kiss with Harry was dry, hollow, and empty; and she felt nothing from it.
After a moment he pulled away and smiled at her.
She forced herself to smile back at him.
"Well, I’ll see you tomorrow, Hermione." Harry said as he turned and walked out.
Hermione blinked then was suddenly overcome with a nauseous feeling and spat on the floor, trying to get the disgustingly dry taste out of her mouth. After a moment she wiped her lips.
What was that? Ugh! That kiss wasn't anything like I was expecting at all. It was worse than Ron's! I thought our kiss would be magical, romantic, and filled with passion...not disgustingly dry, hollow, and empty! It was like kissing a tree! She thought as she turned and stomped out the door.
As she made her way towards the head's common room, she frowned, thinking about her meeting with Harry.
That had to be the most disgustingly hollow kiss I've ever had! There was no feeling in it at all! She thought as she stopped at the portrait door.
"Phoenix Blossoms" she muttered and the door opened.
She walked inside, grumbling to herself.
"Well well, back from your romantic night with Potter already, Granger?" Draco drawled from above, leaning on the balcony smirking down at her.
She just rolled her eyes and went over to the couch and sat down staring at the fire.
Draco nonchalantly strode down the stairs and plopped down on the other side of the couch.
Hermione sighed deeply and then leaned against the back of the couch.
He raised a brow as he looked to her. "Granger?" he asked.
"What?" She snapped at him.
"I...I guess you found out the truth." he mumbled hesitantly; noticing the angry look on her face.
"The truth about what?" She grumbled glaring at him.
"About, Potter." Draco replied dryly. “I mean I tried to warn y-“
"Oh you mean the fact that he's clueless when it comes to romance or the fact that his kisses are so hollow you'd swear you were kissing a tree!" She hissed interrupting him.
Then she suddenly gasped. Oh no! Did I just say all of that out loud in front of Malfoy?
Hearing her say this, his trademark smirk crept across his face. "Oh?" he asked with a slight chuckle.
She quickly became silent, realizing that Draco could now tease her endlessly.
Angrily she got up and went into the bathroom and started washing her mouth out in the sink. "Ugh...disgusting." she mumbled between rinsing.
"Ugh!" She swished the water around in her mouth and then spat into the sink.
"So, Potter can't kiss eh?" Draco chuckled as he leaned against the frame of the bathroom door, watching her.
She rolled her eyes. "Malfoy, just forget I said anything." She replied, then she rinsed her mouth again.
"And deny myself the endless pleasure to torture you?" He sneered. "Oh how I will treasure this night."
"Look, for your information it was a very bad night so just drop it!" She snapped.
"I can see that." he drawled.
"I can't believe that Ginny liked kissing him though. Ugh how did she deal with his disgusting kisses?" she snapped loudly. "Even when I was the one who kissed him a few nights ago, it wasn't that bad! Ugh!" She mumbled bitterly. Of course maybe that was because Harry didn't kiss me back. She thought.
"Well Weaselette is poor and filthy, Granger." Draco exclaimed arrogantly. “She’s never experienced anything better than Potter so naturally his kisses were the best she's ever had."
"Well that was the worst kiss I've ever had!" She snapped irritably.
He chuckled at her. "Sounds like you had a great time on your little five minute date." He drawled.
"Our meeting was nothing like I had expected!" she ranted as she turned off the water. "He was so...boring...and emotionless...Ugh!"
"Well...what did you expect from Potter; a romantic, passion-filled night with cascading roses and romantic candle light?" He chuckled rolling his eyes.
She paused a moment as he said this and then shook her head.
“Here” He held out a small hand towel to her.
She snatched it from his hand and wiped her face with it a couple of times.
There was a brief silence before Draco broke it.
“It’s not all that bad, you know? And who’d want to swap spit with Potter anyway? You never know where his mouth has been. For all we know he could have had it other places. You know how close he is with Weasel so I wouldn’t be surprised if those two were experimenting and he ended up sucking-”
"Shut up! That's disgusting, Malfoy!” She snapped, giving him an appalling look.
“Hey, you never know with those two.” He replied with a shrug; a wide grin spreading across his features.
She glared at him a moment and then rolled her eyes and took a deep breath.
“Anyway, I can’t believe how disappointing this night was.” She muttered as she walked passed him and headed back to the couch.
He shook his head grinning and followed her.
She sat down on one side and he sat on the other.
She crossed her arms and bit down on her lip fiercely but Harry's nasty taste was still on her lips and she suddenly spat on the floor.
Draco chuckled at her.
Harry wouldn't know romance even if it hit him in the face. How in the world did Ginny put up with that? She thought wiping her mouth.
"What's the matter, Granger? Still can't get the taste of Potter out of your mouth eh?" He teased.
She just stayed silent and glared straight into the fire.
He sighed and then brushed his hair out of his eyes.
"I can't believe this!" She snapped loudly, talking more to herself than to Draco.
"What?" He asked curiously.
"To think that all this time I wanted to be with him and when he finally wants to be with me...it's a disaster!" She paused and sighed deeply.
Draco thought a moment.
"You know, Potter isn't really interested in-" He stopped and looked down. I'm not sure if I should tell her the truth about Potter, she's already upset. Besides, if I did tell her the truth she wouldn't believe me, and we'd probably be fighting like earlier.
"He's nothing like I had hoped." She mumbled. "I mean tonight he seemed so emotionless...his words...his kiss...and to think that I was so excited about being his girlfriend."
He raised a brow at her then smirked. "So, I take it that you didn't feel that magical feeling huh?" He replied with a chuckle.
"No." She replied slowly. "The only person that I've ever felt that feeling with is...you." She added softly.
He felt a lump in his throat and looked to the floor nodding slowly. "Yeah... same here." he mumbled just above a whisper.
She slowly turned to look at him, and remembered the dreams that she'd been having about him. They had seemed so real.
Draco's kisses were always so warm, and I felt something every time when he kissed me. I know how wrong it is to feel this way about him, but I can't help it. I...I think...
Draco sighed and then thought. I feel kind of relieved now that she didn't like Potter's kisses. And now, maybe we can... He then shook the thought out of his head. No Draco, you can never show that side of yourself to her again. If you do she'll just tell you that she doesn't feel the same way again. If you kiss her again, the two of you will be fighting soon after. It's best to just let her be and don't show any sympathy for her!
And with that he sighed and leaned against the back of the couch.
She then sighed silently and looked back at the fire. I know that I'm the one who said that what I felt with Draco was wrong, but if that's true then why am I having all of these strange romantic dreams about him? She then remembered that she was back with Harry and Ron on a friendly basis again and she didn't want to ruin that. Though I don't like Harry romantically, I do still want to keep my friendship with him and Ron. And so I can't let myself feel this way about Draco...can I? She then leaned back and closed her eyes.
What should I do? She thought. Then a few moments later she drifted off to sleep.

Chapter 35- Her Heart Speaks, And An Annoying Harry
"What are your real feelings towards me, Granger?" asked a familiar voice. Then she felt a warm hand on her cheek.
"Huh?" She wondered as her eyes opened.
She gasped, seeing Draco's face just inches from her own.
"I said, what are your real feelings towards me?" He repeated.
"I...I don't feel anything for you." She lied in a weak voice.
"I know better!" He sneered in almost a whisper. "Because every time you close your eyes; you bring me into your dreams like this."
She blinked as she looked at him. "So, this is all a dream?" She asked.
"Sort of, I'm representing your other self, the self you keep hiding away, in the form of the guy who is constantly on your mind. And for now, I am Draco Malfoy." He said.
She looked confused by this but just shrugged. "Okay...so what is this dream supposed to mean to me?" she asked with an annoyed look on her face.
"Well, since you keep having inner conflicts about me, maybe speaking to me in this way will reveal that answer." He said arrogantly.
She raised a brow.
"Look, I know that you want to be with me...but you are afraid of your own feelings. You are convinced that the feelings you felt when you kissed me were wrong, because you felt them with no one else but me." He said almost coldly. Then his voice softened slightly. "But you should stop lying to me and stop lying to yourself. You know what will make you happy, don't you?"
She felt the tears welling up in her eyes. "Stop! I know where this is leading and I don't want to talk about it!" She snapped. But he continued on despite her protest.
"You want to be with me so badly that you've done things that you wouldn't normally do for Potter or Weasel. Think about it!"
"No! I don't want to talk about this! Stop it! Wake up! Wake up Hermione!" She cried out as he continued to speak.
"You went to the Forbidden Forest to meet with my father and ask him to break the contract that Pansy had on me. You came face to face with the Dark Lord, who spared your life when my father was about to kill you. The Dark Lord convinced my father that your life was worth sparing at the moment. And then my father told you what you had to do to break the contract. He told you that you had to kill Pansy and you did. You actually killed someone to help me!"
She bit her lip and nodded slowly as he continued on. "By helping me, you betrayed everything that you stood for. You have betrayed Potter and Weasel; the friends that you've had since first year. You've lied to the very professors who have always trusted your word; like McGonagall. You convinced her that I was innocent and you kept yourself covered along with that. She had no problem changing her mind about me once you spoke to her. You've done so many other little things to help me out as well."
She nodded slowly as he went on. "And yet, when I tried to get close to you; tried to actually be nice to you, we got into a fight. And you were the one who seemed to start it every time."
She thought a moment. "It's true that I have been helping you out a lot, but every time you start being nice to me I-" she began.
"You get scared." he cut in.
She nodded hesitantly.
"You're...right. But the reason for my fear is a valid one. I mean, I'm afraid of getting close to you because you may end up hurting me." she said in almost a whisper. "I want to be with you, yes but you're supposed to be my enemy. Yet, the feelings I have for you are so strong that I'm not sure what to do. I've never felt this way about anyone before."
"Well you can't keep ignoring what you feel. And if you're not careful, you may actually lose your chance of being with me. And then again you may have already lost it because of our last fight." he snapped at her.
"What do you mean by I may have lost my chance?" She gasped.
"Because, I may have already given up on you, and shut away my soft side forever." He replied coldly.
"What? But, why?" She asked.
His eyes narrowed at her.
"Did you ever stop to think that you may have hurt me? I do have feelings you know! Did you ever think about how strange the feelings were to me? I'd never felt them before either. I’m not supposed to feel them. Try being me; lying awake all hours of the night; with my mind on you. My father would beat me to a bloody pulp if he knew what went on in my mind. Imagine how much it is tormenting my soul when you make me think that I stand a chance with you and then you turn around and explode on me for no reason. "
She thought for a moment, letting his words sink into her head. "I-I guess I never considered your feelings because I didn't think you'd feel anything. I think it's because there are times that I still see you as the same jerk that I met in first year."
"And why can't you see past that?" He asked. "Why won't you look at the other side of me? There is a softer side; it’s the side that hardly anyone else has seen before."
"I...I don't know." She replied slowly.
"Your heart is the one who sees me, who cares for me yet you try your best to ignore it. You try to listen only to your mind, because you think your heart is wrong for feeling so strongly about me. Face it, Granger; your fear is what's driving you! Your fear is what keeps getting in the way of your own happiness! It's what keeps getting in the way of you and me and causes us to fight like we do."
Tears began to fall from her eyes as he spoke. He slowly wrapped his arms around her and embraced her warmly.
"Draco...I-" She began in a choked up voice but she couldn't speak.
"Shhh...Everything’s okay, Hermione. I'm here with you. I'm right beside you and when you open your eyes you will see me." He whispered as he leaned towards her and kissed her lips.
"Huh!" She gasped as her eyes flew open. She put her hand over her rapidly beating heart and took a few more breaths.
"It was just another dream." She mumbled and then she looked over to see that Draco was sound asleep leaning against the other arm of the couch.
He really is beside me, just like he said in my dream. She thought as she stared at him. He looked so peaceful. She found herself smiling briefly. He's so cute. She thought then gasped at herself.
She moved her hand up and suddenly felt her cheek. It was slightly damp. Had she been crying in her sleep as well? She wondered about that a moment and then sighed.
I know it was just a dream but...it scared me. And the way that Draco was describing the way I felt about him...is the way I actually do feel...but... She then shook her head as she looked at him. But I shouldn't like him in this way...
Just then he began to stir. She watched him rub his eyes and then open them sleepily.
"What time is it?" he mumbled.
"It's almost midnight." She replied softly, glancing at the clock and then allowing her eyes to fall on him for just a moment.
He yawned then looked to her. "I must have dozed off because you bored me." he drawled.
She wasn't sure how to respond to that so she just shifted her gaze to the fire.
Then suddenly he let out a gasp. "Wait, you said that it's almost midnight?"
"Yes..." She replied slowly.
"The potion...she said it would be done tonight!" he mumbled out loud.
"Potion? Huh? What?" She asked raising a brow.
He frowned as she looked at him curiously. "Nothing...just forget I said that!" He snapped.
"Malfoy..." She began as her curiosity turned to suspicion.
"Look Granger, it's none of your business so just-forget I said anything." he snapped at her.
She nodded slightly. "Okay." She replied hesitantly. I don't want to fight with him. I'm hoping I haven't lost my chance to be with him and if I can just get the nerve up to talk to him... she thought to herself.
He was slightly taken aback by her response. She didn't argue or insult him at all like she usually did. Instead, she just stared at the fire quietly. What's with her? He wondered. He then remembered that Harry, Ron, and Ginny were going to be in the bathroom drinking Polyjuice potion, carrying out their so-called plans. He wasn't about to let them and he was determined to show up and catch them red handed.
"I...have to go take a walk." He mumbled as he quickly stood up.
“Huh? But it’s-” Hermione didn’t have a chance to finish for Draco was already hurrying out the door.
Hermione let out a frustrated sigh then leaned back against the couch. I was so close to telling him my feelings! She snapped at herself.
And then a curious look came over her face. What was he talking about just then? He just said something about a potion and a meeting in a bathroom at midnight. I wonder what’s going on. She wondered.
Then she stood up as her curiosity began to get the best of her. I want to know what he was talking about. She thought as she found herself walking towards the portrait door. It opened and she stepped out into the corridor, just in time to see a flash of blonde disappear around the corner. Where is he going? She thought as she quietly started down the corridor.
Hermione began to pick up her pace a bit as she continued her pursuit. But as she turned the corner she saw no trace of the Slytherin blonde.
Where did he go? She wondered as she stood there looking around. Then taking a deep breath she continued down the corridor slowly. As she did so she couldn't help but wonder how to go about telling him how she felt about him. So, how will I tell him my feelings? Should I write him a note, or maybe a poem? No, he's the type that I'd have to say it to his face. So, I just have to say something like, "Hi, I want to tell you that I like you a lot..," No it has to sound differently. I may give him the wrong idea if I sound desperate. I can't rush it. She thought as she walked along. Maybe I should say, "Hey, guess what? I have strong feelings towards you that have been there a long time and so what I am saying is..." No no no, that is too casual. He'll think that all I want to do is make out or something. No, I need to say it where it sounds meaningful...and non desperate...and warm but not too romantic... she brushed a strand of her hair back as she rounded a corner.
And then...she saw him. The blonde Slytherin was walking down a familiar corridor.
Why is he going down there? She thought curiously as she continued to follow him silently. And then she watched as he disappeared into a very familiar bathroom. That's Moaning Myrtle's bathroom. Why did he go in there? She wondered as she began to walk towards it slowly.
"Ginny?" asked a familiar voice as a hand fell on her shoulder. "Ginny, is that you?"
Hermione gasped and spun around to see Harry.
"No Harry, it's not Ginny." Hermione replied with an uneasy frown as she looked at him.
"Oh bloody hell, it's you, Hermione." Harry replied quickly, almost in a Ron sort of way.
"Yes, is that a problem?" She asked raising a brow.
"Of course not." Harry replied. "It's just so dark that I couldn't tell who you were." He lied.
"So, what are you doing down this way?" He asked slowly.
"Oh, I was just out...patrolling the halls as usual." She lied.
"But don't you do that earlier in the evening? It's a quarter past midnight." he pointed out.
"Well, one can never patrol too much." She replied then she gestured to him. "And just what are you doing wandering the halls so late at night, Harry?" She asked firmly.
"Oh...well...I...I was going to see you." He stuttered. "But then I realized that I uh...forgot my Invisibility Cloak and was going back to get it when I saw you and thought it was Ginny."
She nodded then frowned slightly. How could he mistake me for looking like Ginny? She wondered to herself.
Harry glanced behind her briefly to see two figures poking their heads out of the bathroom. One was blonde; the other was a bushy haired brunette. He could see that they looked annoyed.
He then coughed loudly.
Hermione looked at him curiously. "Harry, are you alright?" She asked slowly.
"Oh I'm just fine!" He replied quickly, with a slightly nervous stutter. He then cleared his throat and changed the subject.
"Well, since we're uh...together maybe we should er...go for a walk around Hogwarts." He suggested weakly.
She quirked a brow. "Harry you know we can't do that. We'll get caught." She protested.
"Well I mean I could always go get my Invisibility Cloak and we could then." He replied.
She shrugged then nodded hesitantly. "Fine, I suppose I could just wait here for you to do that." She mumbled.
He chuckled nervously and then desperately looked at the two figures behind her.
The blonde was frantically trying to get the nervous 'Harry' to shoo Hermione away.
Hermione sighed and looked around impatiently. Why did I just say that? I should have told him no. I need to go look for Draco. She thought.
"Uh Hermione, how about we meet at the-" He paused, looked over her shoulder, and then continued. "Astronomy Tower in like ten minutes?"
“Why do you keep looking behind me?” Hermione asked turning slightly to glance behind her.
The two figures had ducked into the bathroom again.
She turned back around, eyeing Harry suspiciously.
“Oh n-no reason, just keeping an eye out f-for Filch, you know?” he stuttered.
She was opening her mouth to speak when he quickly added, “So, meet me there in ten minutes, okay?”
"Uh...okay Harry." She replied slightly disappointed. Then she turned and walked away.
As soon as she disappeared around the corner, 'Harry' rushed over to the bathroom and was met at the door by the blonde and brunette.
“Hurry, get in here!” the bushy-haired girl snapped as she pulled him inside.
"What the hell was wrong with you, Ron?" grumbled Harry, who was in the form of Draco.
"Sorry Harry, it's just when I saw Hermione I got...well...butterflies." Ron whined, as he fiddled with the glasses on his face.
"Honestly Ron, you need to stop acting like yourself and start acting like Harry! After all, you are supposed to be him tonight!" Ginny snapped, in the form of Hermione.
"Well excuse me, sis but it's tougher to play Harry than you think!" Ron snapped.
"Oh yeah? Well, try playing Hermione!" She snapped back. "In just a couple of minutes I will be trying to convince Malfoy that I'm her, and I'll have to act all nice to him!"
"And I will have to play as that git!" Harry grumbled as he looked at himself as Malfoy in the mirror. "Ugh, I think I'm going to be sick." He groaned.
"Well we all know our parts. Ron, you are to go meet Hermione in the Astronomy Tower after you leave here; Harry, you are to go there too and wait for Ron's cue. As for me...well I will be kissing up to that disgusting little ferret!" Ginny snapped. "Remember guys, we all have to sound like the real deal, so please, please, please, take this seriously."
"I'll do my best as Harry." Ron chimed in.
"And I'll positively reek of Malfoy." Harry said hesitantly.
"And I'll pull off a good performance as Hermione." Ginny said confidently. "Well, what are we waiting for? Come on, let's go!"
And with that the three exited the bathroom.
The plan was underway.
Ron's hands trembled as he made his way towards the Astronomy Tower. Okay, I just got to remember that I am Harry. I am Harry. He told himself as he walked up the steps and entered the room where a familiar bushy haired brunette stood waiting.
"Hermione..." He whispered with a dreamy smile.
She smiled faintly at him as he approached her. "Hi Harry." She replied hesitantly.
"I'm glad you came." he said.
"Yeah...well just why did you want us to meet here?" She asked bluntly.
"Well...uh...I..." He began. Come on Ron, think! You have to think of something that Harry would say. he mentally scolded himself. Then he took a breath and continued more confidently. "I thought that we could meet here since we're together now."
She cringed slightly and chuckled nervously. "Well, actually I never quite said yes..." She began but he cut her off.
"You didn't have to say it because the softness of your lips was as good as any words." He blurted out.
She blinked then swallowed nervously. That's not what I wanted to hear. she thought.
"My dear, Hermione, let us spend tonight together, venturing through the fields of love." He said loudly.
"Harry! Shhhh! You're going to wake up everyone." Hermione scolded bitterly.
"But I am just professing my love for you. I need you, I want you..." He replied.
Harry; who was in the form of the Slytherin prince; stood just outside the door, rolling his eyes and stifling his laughter as he heard Ron's droning.
"Look Harry, I think we should talk about this whole...um...relationship thing." She began calmly.
"You're right! We should." He said loudly as he grabbed her hands and pulled her to him, their faces were just inches from each other.
"We should talk about our future together." He said staring into her eyes.
She swallowed nervously.
"I look forward to being with you forever, Hermione." Ron babbled on. "You've been the one that I can't stop thinking about. The one who has made me realize the foolish mistakes that I made in the past." She listened patiently as he went on and on, hoping this meeting would be over soon.

Chapter 36 - To Weasel the Truth from a Ferret
I can't believe I am going to be nice to Malfoy. I hope that I can pull this off. Ginny thought as she slowly made her way towards the Head's common room. One more corridor and she'd be there. But just as she rounded the corner, a hand came out of the darkness and clamped around her wrist. Then she was suddenly pulled into a dark, empty classroom. Her back hit the wall as she was pushed against it. Then there was a loud click. Ginny shuddered as she looked around in the darkness. Moments later, a dim light washed over the room and familiar blond Slytherin stepped out of the shadows.
"Malfoy." She gasped quietly as he strode over closer to her.
"Well well well, hello there, Granger." he sneered making sure to emphasize on the name 'Granger'.
"What do you want, Malfoy?" she hissed at him bitterly.
He chuckled and then moved towards her. "You know what I want." he replied as he purposefully pressed his body against her hard.
She trembled nervously.
He tilted his head and then lifted his hand and ran it lightly down her cheek and down her neck to her tense shoulders.
She shuddered at his touch.
"What's wrong, Granger? You're usually more relaxed when we do this." he said in a low voice just above a whisper.
"What do you mean?" She asked with an uneasy frown.
"You know exactly what I mean." he replied with a sly grin. "But this time when you scream my name, can you at least wait until we get undressed?"
Ginny gasped in horror. "What!" She snapped as her voice cracked. "You mean that you and Hermione...I mean...we...we have done...these kinds of things together?"
Draco pretended not to notice her slipup.
"Well you should know, after all you are Hermione Granger, right?" He teased with a menacing grin.
"Yes but...I...think we should just sit and talk for tonight." She replied quickly.
He took a few steps back from her and chuckled at the nervous expression on her face.
"Alright then, let's talk." He said simply.
She was relieved to see him back off so easily.
She nodded then plopped down on top of a desk. He sat on a desk across from her eyeing her with a smirk that made her feel quite uncomfortable.
Let's just see how much fun I can have here with Weaselette. He thought as he smiled to himself.
The silence was unnerving, and his eyes glued upon her made her squirm a lot.
Does she actually think that I'm going to fall for her little game? The least she could do is try to be like the real Granger. He thought trying to keep his composure, though the urge to burst out laughing was strong. Oh well, looks like I'm the one who's going to have to make the first move here. He then shrugged to himself and ran a hand through his blonde hair. Let the fun began.
"So, what do you want to talk about?" He asked bluntly.
"Well...I....uh...." Ginny was struggling for something to talk about.
He rolled his eyes and then chuckled lightly.
"I know you're just so in awe of being in my presence, but must I be the one to make the first move all the time?" He asked as arrogantly as he could without overacting.
Ginny's face scrunched into a disgusted frown. "You're so full of yourself, Malfoy!" She spat at him.
"I know." He replied. "But you like that about me. You said so yourself."
"I...did?" She asked raising a brow.
"Yeah, that day when we were laying on your bed, making up insults about Potter and the Weasels remember?" He asked with a wide smile.
"Uh, I guess so." She replied hesitantly.
"I especially remember how you insulted Weaselette, saying how filthy she was and how Potter was pitiful to choose such a poor, dirty, girl to fulfill his lustful desires. And I must say that I agree." He said watching the bitter hatred flash in her eyes. He then continued on. "I couldn't help but crack up about that remark you made about Weasel's kiss and how you only dated him to try to get closer to Potter. And of course when that backfired, you threw yourself to the floor and begged me to take pity on you." He said sighing loudly with a mock smile.
Ginny nodded slowly, forcing a faint smile on her face, trying to keep from being sick.
Draco then stood up and chuckled as he moved towards her. "Don't you remember that? Ever since that day, we've been...having our nightly flings." He added as he reached down and grabbed her hand.
She swallowed nervously.
"And you even claimed that Potter knew nothing when it came to romance. You knew that you'd be just another conquest for me but that’s what you wanted and so you didn't care." He said as his eyes bore into hers.
"I...I was that desperate?" She managed to ask in a weak voice.
He nodded. "That's why you lost your virginity to me.” He said in a low seductive voice watching the horrified look creep across face.
Hermione slept with Malfoy! Oh my gosh! Ginny's mind screamed but she forced herself to stay calm even as he put his hands on her knees.
"And you also said that you would never resist me and that I could have you anytime and anywhere I wanted." he added as he leaned down allowing his lips to lightly brush across her ear, causing her to shudder.
"I...did?" She asked nervously as she felt his hands slowly sliding up her legs.
"And...I want you...now." he whispered into her ear.
She shuddered at his touch. Oh no! No way! I'm not doing this! She thought quickly. I'm not going to go any farther than this! Quick Ginny, do something! Say something! Her mind screamed.
He smirked as he felt her shudder. Let's see how she reacts to this. Oh this is too much fun. He thought forcing himself to keep a straight face.
"Look, I know that I said that but I...I think we should break up!" She snapped fiercely as she pushed him back and quickly stood up. "After all, I'm with Harry now and...and we're happy together and he trusts me."
"So?" He shrugged. "You didn't mind hiding our 'relationship' from Potter before when he was dating that scrawny, filthy Weaselette." he sneered.
She glared at him. "Excuse me? Who the hell are you calling filthy?" She shouted. Then gasped as she realized that she'd just fallen out of character and quickly tried to find words to cover herself. "I mean...Ginny is my friend and you're hurting my feelings by calling her names." She added quickly hoping that he hadn't become suspicious.
"That's funny." he chuckled going along with her pathetic little attempt at covering herself. "Because I remember you saying that the only reason you were 'friends' with her was because she had no friends and you felt sorry for her. You even said that she might be useful sometime. Of course, I can't see any use for her other than maybe licking the dirt off my shoes." He said watching her face flush an angry red. He was really enjoying this. "And," He continued on with a menacing grin. "If I wanted her as a conquest I'm sure she'd be just as willing as you were."
Ginny was shaking with rage. She was so close to lunging forward and slapping the nuts out of him. But remembering she was supposed to be Hermione, she took a few quick breaths and regained her composure. "Look Malfoy, as I mentioned earlier, I think we should break up because I'm with Harry now." She said sharply.
"Oh?" He stared at her with mock surprise. "Are you actually saying that I don't satisfy you anymore?" He asked raising a brow.
"Well...no I mean you never did, I was just playing games with you the whole time." She blurted out quickly.
"Maybe so, but you see, the trouble with games is that you have to know how to play them." He sneered with a cold chuckle. "You have to actually focus on what you are doing and you have to make sure that you do whatever it takes to win!"
She cringed then quickly replied. "Uh yeah...okay well anyway Malfoy, as I said; I was just playing games with you."
"I have a hard time believing that." he said as his trademark smirk crept across his face. "After all some of the things you did for me were real." He added as he sat down on top of a desk.
"What do you mean?" She asked.
"Well like doing my homework and especially defending me when Weaselette accused me of killing Pansy." he stated bluntly watching her shift uncomfortably at the last part of his sentence.
Turning the conversation from sexual to serious, he decided to see just how much Ginny knew about the incident. So he cleared his throat, looking at her with a slightly suspicious frown. "Tell me something." he said as he studied her intently. "Just what do you remember about that night?"
Ginny gasped. She didn't know what to say as he got up and moved closer to her. His piercing grey eyes were cold as he stared at her. "Tell me everything that you saw that night." he said firmly.
And suddenly forgetting that she was supposed to be Hermione, she answered weakly."Well, I know what I saw."
"And what was it that you saw?" he asked in a tone that was deadly serious.
“Like I told Professor McGonagall, I'm sure that I saw you..." She stopped suddenly and gasped. Then forcing herself back into character, she continued on quickly. "I'm sure that I saw you as innocent because you are, right?"
He smirked and then went and plopped down on the desk top that he'd been sitting on. "Well, you're the only other person who knows the truth about that night and..." He gasped and stopped himself. nuts! Why did I just say that? He mentally snapped at himself as he saw the suspicious look on her face.
"I see." She said slowly. So, Hermione knows the truth about what happened that night. But how could she? Unless...she saw it too! Ginny thought quickly. She knew she'd have to tell this to Harry and Ron.
Draco quickly regained his composure and then changed the subject. "So Granger, how about we stop talking now and spend some time together?" He asked with a sly smile.
d**n it, there he goes trying to seduce me again. She thought as she rolled her eyes. Then she shook her head. "No, I think I'd better leave." She retorted as she stood up.
But as she started for the door, he quickly jumped in front of her. "You're not going anywhere!" He sneered as he grabbed her arm and forced her against the wall.
She gasped and shuddered as he grabbed her wrists and squeezed them tightly.
"What are you doing? Let go of me!" She snapped trying to struggle free but he maintained his hold on her.
"I know what you're up to." he sneered at her as his features darkened and his voice became cold.
"What do you mean?" Ginny asked hesitantly.
"Don't play innocent with me, I know that you're going to run to Potter and Weasel and tell them what we just talked about!" he snapped.
"No, I'm not!" She snapped quickly-a little too quickly.
"Don't lie to me, I know better." he growled.
She shuddered and her whole body tensed up.
With an evil grin, he chuckled at the fearful look on the girl's face.
"You seem tense, Weaselette, didn't Potter satisfy your every desire?" He sneered at her.
"That is none of your business, Malfoy and..." She suddenly stopped and gasped. "Wh-What did you call me?"
"I called you Weaselette because you are Weaselette!" He snapped now flashing his trademark smirk at her.
"But...how did you know?" She asked timidly.
"Oh trust me, I know a lot of things, plus you're not a very convincing Granger." he said arrogantly.
"Yeah well...I know a lot of things about you too." She hissed defensively as she broke free of his grip that he'd foolishly loosened.
"Such as what?" he asked raising a brow.
"Such as I know that you're hiding something about Pansy's death. And Hermione knows the truth! I know that you know more than what you're telling!" she snapped at him as she bolted for the door.
He blocked her escape and this time he forcefully pushed her against the wall.
She gasped at his actions.
His eyes narrowed at her and his face scrunched up into a menacing sneer.
"Tell me what you know." he demanded coldly.
"What?" She asked.
"Tell me what you know about Pansy's death!" he growled dangerously.
Scared of him losing his temper, Ginny broke down and told him what she'd seen that night.
"So, you're still convinced that I am the one who killed Pansy, eh?" he asked stifling a laugh.
"Well, it's obvious, isn't it? Hermione isn't the only one who knows the truth and why she defended a murderer like you, I'll never know!"
"Murderer?" he asked with a cold chuckle.
"Yes!" Ginny hissed at him. "I don't know any other student who would go as far to kill anyone other than you!" She snapped accusingly.
I do. He thought as he stared at her a moment.
Then he suddenly remembered Harry and Ron. They were somehow going to trick Hermione. nuts! I forgot about them!
He thought with a blank look on his face. Then he blinked and glared furiously at the frightened girl in front of him.
"What are Potter and Weasel up to? What kind of trick are they going to play on Granger? Who are they supposed to turn into?" He demanded.
Her eyes widened. "Huh? You mean you know..." she began.
"About the Polyjuice potion?" he cut her off smirking. "Yes, I do. I know all about the plan that you three have."
She gasped then suddenly smirked. "Well, I've bought them enough time to talk to Hermione and after tonight, she'll hate you more than ever!" She hissed regaining her confidence.
Her words suddenly made him sick.
"Just what do you mean by that?" he demanded shaking her violently.
She refused to say anything.
"d**n it, Weaselette, tell me! What are they going to do to her?" he snarled.
His sudden concerned looked threw her off guard a moment but then she retorted. "Well, let's just say that once 'Harry' saves Hermione from 'Malfoy'; she'll never trust you again!" she hissed confidently.
"What do you mean by that?" he snapped.
"Let's just say that 'Malfoy's' evil side will come out." She replied maliciously.
His eyes widened in horror. No! His mind screamed.
"It doesn't matter now though because it's too late." She hissed, trying to keep her voice from cracking. "I'm sure that everything has already happened as planned."
He scowled hatefully at her and pulled out his wand.
She gasped at him.
"STUPEFY!" he growled as a red light flew out of the tip of his wand and hit her.
She dropped to the floor unconscious. As she did so; something black fell out of her pocket.
Draco looked down to see a small black box lying beside her. The gold trim around it caught his attention and he reached down and grabbed it. He opened it up to find two small clear vials, each containing a different color of hair. One vial held red strands, the other had black. Draco stared at them for a moment and then his eyes narrowed slowly.

Chapter 37- Painful Confessions
Hermione stood there, feeling quite bored listening to Ron-who was still disguised as Harry- babbling on and on about his undying love for her. Honestly, Harry has gotten as bad as Ron when it comes to things like this. She thought to herself.
Harry too-who was still disguised as Draco- groaned silently with annoyance as he glared at his friend. Shut up, already Ron! He thought, as he stayed hidden outside the door.
"...and when we're old and grey I'll still be there to love you and hold you and kiss you..." Ron babbled on.
Finally Hermione couldn't take it anymore. "That's enough, Harry!" She snapped at him sharply.
The dark haired young man in front of her blinked at her outburst but then sighed. "I'm sorry, it's just that well I feel so strongly for you that I had to get out the years of pent up frustration that I've had. All these years that I've kept quiet about my feelings for you, but now I-" he replied.
"Okay. Okay. You’ve finally gotten it all out so you don't have to say it anymore." She interrupted coldly.
Ron was baffled at the coldness that was radiating off of Hermione; and even Harry in his disguise noticed it.
"So, if that's all, I'm leaving." She said as she turned to go.
“No!” Ron gasped as he grabbed her hand. "Don't go, Hermione. I really want you to stay with me here; just for a little longer." Ron said sincerely.
She sighed. "Harry, look, I really need to go." She mumbled as she walked over to the window and looked out it.
Ron looked completely clueless as he shrugged helplessly at the blonde Slytherin boy who had slowly poked his head in the door.
This was Harry's cue and so he took a few deep breaths and closed his eyes. I have to do this. I have to be mean, insulting, and cruel. I have to be Malfoy. His mind said over and over again. Then he nodded confidently and strolled into the room quietly.
Ron nodded to him and he nodded back.
Hermione continued to stare out the window; oblivious to what was going on.
Why am I still here with Harry? Why don't I just go look for Malfoy? I really want to talk to him. She thought with a heavy sigh.
"Well if it isn't...Potter and Granger, sneaking off up here together." drawled a cold voice.
Hermione's heart skipped a beat. She spun around to see the blonde Slytherin strutting up to her.
Harry's impersonation took Ron by surprise.
He actually portrayed Draco Malfoy perfectly.
"What are you doing up here H-er-Malfoy!" Ron spat trying his best to put himself in the role of Harry.
"What do you think I'm doing? I'm patrolling. I am Head Boy you know." Harry spat at him.
Hermione raised a brow at the two. Something seemed...different about their confrontations towards each other.
"Come on, Hermione, let's go." Ron mumbled, as he started out the door.
"Just a second." Harry snapped grabbing her hand.
"What are you doing, Malfoy!" She snapped at him jerking her hand away.
"I need to talk to you for a moment...alone." Harry hissed in Draco's tone.
Feeling relieved she nodded then looked to ‘Harry’.
"Malfoy and I need to discuss some Head duties Harry, I will talk to you later." she said quickly to Ron.
Ron nodded hesitantly as he pushed the glasses on his nose up a notch. Harry raised a serious brow at Ron, who gave a slight nod as he pretended to hesitantly leave.
As soon as he was out of sight, Hermione breathed a sigh of relief. "I never thought he would leave." she said.
Harry's eyes narrowed at her. He seemed a little disappointed by her statement.
"So, what is it that you needed to talk about?" She asked curiously as she turned to him with a warm look on her face.
"Uh..." Harry thought a moment then remembered the plan and smirked. "I just wanted to get you alone..." he said slyly.
She smiled faintly then cleared her throat. "Really?" She asked.
"Yeah, you know...I thought that we could team up and play another game on Potter." he sneered. "Unless of course you're too loyal to him now, and if you are then I will just drop the whole thing." he added quickly.
She gave him an odd look and then sighed. "We've already discussed this, Malfoy." She replied with a slight giggle. "As much fun as we had before, I told you that I don't want to use you like that again."
He grimaced slightly. "Is that so?" he asked.
She nodded.
"So, just out of curiosity, why did you stick up for me at dinner earlier?" He asked slowly; suspiciously.
"Well, you should know the answer to that." She replied with a slight smile. "Besides, I would feel guilty about sending you to Azkaban when you're really innocent."
"I...see." He mumbled.
She studied him for a moment. He seemed almost nervous.
"Malfoy, are you alright?" She asked slowly.
"Yes, I'm fine." He snapped quickly. "Why?" he asked.
"Well you just seem different, almost nervous actually." She replied with a concerned expression.
Harry suddenly thought of something and then said, "Actually, I am a little uncomfortable at the thought of you being back with Ro-er- Weasel and Potter. And since you are dating Potter now, I'm sure you must have told him my secrets."
"Look just because I'm back with them doesn't mean I will go blabbing. If I'm mad at you, I don't run to them and spill everything; you should know that by now. Besides, it's really none of their business what goes on between us anyway." She strongly protested, now frowning.
"What do you mean by that?" he asked quickly.
"Well, think about all that we've been through. Why would I start running to Harry, now?" She asked simply.
"Huh?" he asked raising a suspicious brow. "But you always tell him everything." He added firmly.
"No, I don't. I haven't in a long time. And I have kept every secret that you've told me." She emphasized.
Harry glared at her. Wait a minute; she's been keeping Draco's secrets from me? He thought. Then he tilted his head at her. "Like which secrets?" He asked slowly.
"Oh you know the really important ones." She said simply.
"You must be kidding, Her-er-Granger. I know that you go and tell Potter and your friends everything about us." he scoffed, hoping that she would spill whatever secrets she'd been hiding.
"Really Malfoy, I think you're being paranoid. Do you honestly think that I would go and tell Harry the truth about everything?" she snapped.
His face darkened slightly. Does this mean that Hermione and Malfoy have become allies? He gasped as he remembered the conversation that he'd had with Ron and Ginny.
"Hermione is very cunning and clever. And as much as I don't like her, I can't dismiss her intelligence level." Ginny had said.
"You're right about that. And though I hate to admit it, Malfoy is quite strong and powerful himself." He remembered himself say.
Ron gulped nervously. "You guys, if those two got together and joined You-Know-Who..."
"The outcome would be disastrous!" Harry said finishing his friend's sentence.
The three all shuddered and stood in silence for a moment.
Harry shuddered. I have to do it. I have to hurt Hermione while I'm in this form. I have to make her hate Malfoy more than anyone else! I have to keep those two enemies! And I have to do this! He thought.
Now is your chance. Tell him how you feel about him. Tell him! Her mind coaxed. She swallowed nervously and then nodded slightly.
"Malfoy, I...I want to tell you something." She said, her soft voice breaking his thoughts.
"What?" he asked hesitantly.
She cringed and then took a deep breath.
"Well, I...I..." She began.
"You, what?" He snapped impatiently.
"I...I like you." she replied nervously.
"You like me?" he asked coldly.
She nodded slowly.
No! She can't like Malfoy! Harry's mind screamed.
And then he felt her lips on his. His eyes widened with shock as she leaned in against him.
But as she kissed him that warm, magical, romantic feeling that she'd experienced with him twice before, was not there.
Oh no, that strong feeling from before. I...I can't feel it this time. It's like... it's... gone! She mentally gasped feeling nothing but cold and emptiness. This can't be! He's become cold and emotionless! No! Did I lose my chance with him like the dream said? She pulled away staring at him with hurt, wide eyes.
He took a moment to regain himself and then suddenly his surprised expression turned to cold, bitter hatred. "How...dare...you..." he began wiping his mouth quickly. “How dare you kiss me!"
His cold expression startled her. "Malfoy...didn't you feel anything from that?" She asked bluntly.
"No, nothing but your foul tasting spit!" he snarled at her.
His angry tone brought tears to her eyes but she refused to let them fall.
"You disgusting, filthy, little, lying m-mudblood!" Harry shouted at her, accidentally throwing in a few of his own words.
She slowly looked to the floor. Nothing but pure hatred was radiating off of him. It’s true, I've lost my chance with him. He's filled with nothing but hatred now and even his kisses are cold and empty. The warm, passionate, romantic Draco I knew is gone! And she bit her lip, as her chin quivered.
"Malfoy...what's happened to you?" She whispered.
Harry wasted no time lashing out at her. "What's happened to me? I'll tell you what's happened to me! I have just been kissed by a foul, disgusting, mudblood pregnant dog; that's what has happened to me!" he snarled as he stalked towards her.
She gulped and backed away.
"I have decided that you aren't worth my time anymore. I've decided that you're no longer useful to me." He sneered.
"Useful to you?" She asked with a confused expression.
"Yes, Granger! For your information, I have been using you this whole time!"
"You don't mean that..." She mumbled. "You must still have some feeling left."
"You want to bet?" he snapped.
She stopped backing away and stood staring at him. "You are just afraid of what you felt when we kissed before." She stated firmly.
He scowled at her. "I'm not afraid of anything, I just hate you!" he snarled at her.
"No you don't, you're just scared. But I'm scared too." She said trying to sound as calm as possible.
"I am not scared!” He growled as he lunged at her and roughly pushed her against the wall.
She felt a sharp pain as her back hit the wall and she gasped in horror at his outburst.
"Malfoy, what are you-" she began.
“You didn’t actually believe that I wanted filth like you, did you?” He shouted.
She shuttered. “I-I thought that-“
“It was so easy to charm the school know-it-all. What a conquest, I must say!” He laughed. “Wait until I tell Crabbe and Goyle that I won the bet. They owe me a good bit of galleons! Hahaha!”
Hermione stood there with her mouth wide open, horrified at the things that were coming out of the blonde’s mouth.
Harry couldn’t help but feel sick and relieved at the same time as he continued his verbal assault on the bushy-haired girl. It’s for her own good. He thought.
“You should stick with Potter and those other pathetic Gryffindors. You should know that if you play with snakes you’re bound to get bit!” He said sharply.
Unshed tears were stinging beginning to sting Hermione’s eyes, as she listened to ‘Draco’ continue to belittle her. Her heart ached with such pain. He hates me…he hates me. She thought, now feeling her legs becoming weak.

Chapter 38- Role-Playing Rescue
Ron stood down at the bottom of the steps, waiting for the moment when he was to rush in and save the day so to speak. He winced as he heard ‘Draco’ and his verbal assault on Hermione.
I'm so sorry Hermione, but this is for your own good. You’ll see. Harry and I only want to protect you. But once I save you I can make you feel better. He thought, squinting as he heard the word ‘Mudblood’ over and over again.
Just then he heard footsteps behind him. He spun around quickly.
"Stupefy!" whispered a low voice.
Ron fell to the ground unconscious as he was blasted with a red bolt of light. Then a pair of hands reached out and grabbed his legs and dragged him into a dark corner.
Moments later, out of the corner walked a young man with messy dark hair, green piercing eyes, and a scar on the right corner of his forehead. He wore a Gryffindor uniform complete with robe. He had his wand out with a deadly serious look on his face. There was just one thing missing. He smirked as he bent down and snatched up the dark rimmed glasses, that lay upon the unconscious Weasley's face. With a sly grin, he slid them on to complete his ensemble. Then he turned and looked at himself in the full length mirror.
"Let the games begin." he drawled at his reflection.
Then he turned and stalked up the steps of the tower.
Hermione had finally broken down into tears. Harry was circling around like she was his prey; continuously insulting the heart-broken girl. "So, it looks like your friends aren't coming!" He said rather loudly hoping that Ron would take that as his cue and come rushing in.
Hermione bit her lip. She’d never been so hurt before and she couldn’t contain her tears. It hurt so bad to be insulted by the one whom she’d finally fallen for.
Harry looked down away from her and though he did feel a pang of guilt, it was washed away by the thought of Hermione and Draco being allies. I did it for your own good. He thought firmly.
"I...I can’t believe you’re this mean…this evil. You made me believe you cared and…now I…I hate you...Malfoy..." She weakly said through her sobs and tears.
"Good." Harry sneered not showing the least bit of remorse. "This is the way things should be. I hate you, you hate me, and that's that." He said coldly.
She slumped to her knees, holding her sides as she wrapped her arms around herself. She closed her honey brown eyes. She couldn't bear to look at him any longer. The harsh reality hurt too much.
He was using me this whole time. He never cared about me. He was never my true friend! And I...I finally opened my heart to him. I finally got the nerve to tell him how I felt and then he...he...She closed her eyes tighter trying to stop the stream of tears from flowing. Harry was right! I should have listened to him! I should have never teamed up with Malfoy! I should have never got involved with his life and he should have never gotten involved with mine! She continued to cry softly. And now since he's done using me...he's probably going to kill me...sooner or later. He’s pure evil…
"You should have known better, Granger. Never trust an enemy!" She heard him say coldly. "You should have just left me alone."
"What do you think you're doing, Malfoy!" came a sharp voice.
Hermione gasped and opened her eyes to see what looked like Harry Potter standing in the doorway.
"It's about time you got here, Potter." Harry hissed coldly as he brushed back his blonde hair.
Draco smirked seeing his own form talking to him.
But then he scowled as he saw Hermione on the floor crying.
He felt the urge to rush over and beat Harry to a pulp but forced himself to stay in character.
"What did you do to her, Malfoy?" he snapped, glaring at Harry.
"I just thought I'd have a bit of fun, Potter." Harry retorted winking at the dark haired young man.
Draco realized that Harry thought he was Ron in disguise, so he just nodded slightly to him.
"Well, I think I will go brag to my Slytherin friends about how I beat up the mudblood." Harry said as he started to leave the room.
Draco pulled out his wand and pointed it at him. "You're not going anywhere yet, Malfoy!" he snarled with such bitterness he even surprised himself.
Harry was taken aback at first but then just shrugged. "Fine, then I'll just stay and continue where I left off." He sneered.
Draco adjusted his glasses and then glared harshly at him. "Insult her again and you'll be sorry!" He snarled.
Harry just smirked at him.
Is that how I look most of the time? Draco thought, rolling his eyes at the annoying look on the pale blonde's face.
He then shook his head and twirled his wand around absently.
"So, up for a little wizard's duel, Malfoy?" Draco sneered as he pushed the dark rimmed glasses back up on his nose.
Harry blinked at him oddly. "Wizard's duel?" He asked scratching his head.
"No, there won't be any need for that!" Hermione snapped as she slowly stood up, glaring at the blonde Slytherin male.
"I hate you, Draco." She hissed at him.
Then she turned and looked to the dark haired young man that was slowly walking towards her.
"Harry." she said softly.
She rushed over and to him as she began crying.
Draco felt odd but then remembered that he was supposed to be Harry and he slowly embraced her.
"Oh Harry..." She sobbed as she buried her head in his chest.
The blonde Slytherin's face softened for a moment.
Well she's all yours now, Ron. Harry thought as he nodded to the dark haired young man who nodded back with a triumphant smirk on his face.
Harry then cleared his throat. "You two disgust me! Ugh! I'm out of here. This...mudblood is all yours!" He snapped trying to sound insulting as he stomped out.
Draco looked down at the girl in his arms and suddenly found himself embracing her even tighter.
Hermione bit her lip as she lay her head against his chest. Harry feels different from before. He's more warm, and caring now. She thought as she felt the warmth radiating from him.
Draco sighed then frowned slightly. She hates me. He thought as he recalled what she'd said when she'd glared at Harry, thinking that he was the insulting Slytherin.
"I-I can't believe Malfoy would do that to me." She sobbed.
He bit his lip as he rubbed her back.
A painful feeling washed over him as he held her in his arms.
"Why Harry? Why would Malfoy hurt me like that?" She sobbed softly as she pulled away and looked at him.
"Because...he's...a jerk." He replied coldly, his voice cracking slightly.
More tears fell from her eyes and seeing this made something stir inside him.
"I want to go back to my room." She mumbled, wiping her eyes.
"Okay." He managed to say as he put an arm around her and slowly guided her back to the Head's common room.
As they approached the Phoenix portrait, he was about to speak the password when suddenly he remembered that Harry didn't know it. And he knew that if he spoke it, he'd be giving himself away. So, instead he let her say it. She did and the two walked inside.
The door opened and the two entered.
Slowly they walked up the stairs and stood outside of Hermione's room.
Draco knew that the potion would most likely wear off within the hour and so he decided that he would pretend to return to the Gryffindor common room to keep her from finding out that he was disguised as Harry. He didn't want to upset her any more than she already was.
"Well, I think you should get some rest, now. Maybe tomorrow you'll feel better." He said as he turned to go.
"Wait!" She gasped grabbing his hand tightly.
He looked to his hand and then gave her a curious look.
"Please don't leave." She pleaded. "I don't want to be left alone tonight."
"Uh...okay...well I guess that I can sleep on the couch to make sure that...git doesn't mess with you." he replied slowly as she opened the door to her room.
"That won't be a good idea." She replied quickly. "I mean I don't want him picking a fight with you. He won't know you're here if you sleep in my room." She added.
"Wh-What? Me? Sleep in your room?" He asked in disbelief.
She nodded slowly. "Of course, why wouldn't I invite you to stay in my room? You're my best friend." She replied with a warm smile.
Draco gasped as she pulled him into her room and watched as she quickly closed and locked the door behind them.
With a quick sigh, she plopped down on the bed.
Draco felt very awkward as he stood looking around uneasily.

Chapter 39-Torn Between Feelings
"Uh...are you sure that this is a good idea?" He asked hesitantly as she dimmed the lights.
"Yes, and I want him to think I'm asleep so that hopefully he will leave me alone. So, try to keep your voice down." She replied firmly as she plopped down on her bed.
Draco nodded slightly.
"Well have a seat." She said patting the place beside her.
He hesitantly sat down beside her.
She sighed then looked to him curiously. "Are you okay?" She asked.
"Of course I am." He retorted coldly. "Why?"
"Well, it's just that you seem...nervous." She pointed out.
"I'm not nervous." He snapped sharply.
"Okay, sorry. Geez Harry, you don't have to get so defensive." She snapped back.
Then there was a long silence.
She actually thinks I'm that idiot Potter. Why don't I just tell her that it's me? Of course...once she finds out that I've been Potter all this time; she'll see that I wasn't the one who hurt her. And she'll know that Potter was the one who hurt her. He thought, as he looked down. Just then her soft voice interrupted his thoughts.
"Can I ask you something, Harry?" she spoke slowly as she stared sadly at the floor.
"Uh...sure, you know you can ask me anything." He replied trying to sound like the Boy-Who-Lived.
"Did you really want to break up with Ginny?" She asked.
"What kind of question is that?" He snapped at her.
She jumped slightly at his sharp tone. "I'm sorry; I didn't mean to ask something so personal it's just that...I want to know why all of a sudden you wanted to be with me?"
"Well ...isn't that what you wanted?" He asked in a cold tone, feeling slightly jealous.
"Well yes...I mean...it... was." She stopped and bit her lip as a tear slid down her cheek.
He raised a brow at her curiously. "What do you mean by it was?" He asked sharply.
She sniffled then looked to him. "Harry, there's something that...I need to tell you." She began sadly.
"Oh?" Draco asked, almost anxiously.
"It's...not easy for me to say this but...I...I think we should just be friends." she said hesitantly.
He blinked rapidly. "Why?" he asked suspiciously.
"Well, because I think that we're better off as friends." She replied.
"Oh...okay." He mumbled with a shrug.
"And... since we're best friends, I think you need to know that...I've been keeping some things from you, Ron and everyone else. And I feel that I should just come right out and tell you everything." she said slowly. He stared at her incredulously as she continued on.
"I've got a lot of secrets that I've been hiding from you and they have to do with various things including...Malfoy." She said nervously, watching Draco's green eyes narrow slightly.
She thinks she's talking to the real Potter. I was going to tell her that it's really me but now that she's going to blab about everything, I don't think I will. He thought.
"Go on." He said as he crossed his arms with a cold frown on his face. I should have known that I couldn't trust her. It's a good thing I'm still in this disguise because she's about to spill everything! He thought. Then he listened as she continued.
"Well the first thing I need to say is that...I...don't feel anything towards you anymore, Harry." she said. He smirked slightly. "I mean I'm flattered that you want to be with me now, but the truth is...it wouldn't work out. I will be honest with you. I didn't feel anything from that kiss, Harry, as much as I wanted to. It was hollow, empty and lacked passion and feeling. Kissing you was like kissing a tree." She stated firmly.
Draco's eyes were wide as he listened to her blunt confession. Oh man, I'd love to see Potter's reaction to that. He thought trying to keep from laughing.
But then he remembered that she was going to tell him some other things so he cleared his throat. "You mentioned that you had secrets about er... Malfoy. What are they?" He asked bluntly. Now let's see how much Granger is willing to confess to me.
She sighed then said, "Well as much as you don't want to hear this, I should tell you that...well...we...we've kissed."
"Yeah so?" He asked shrugging like it was no big deal.
"Aren't you angry?" She asked puzzled by his calmness.
Draco thought for a moment and then realized that he was supposed to be upset, so he quickly jumped up and threw his hands up in the air. "You...and...Malfoy kissed! No! How could you do that?" He wailed, a little overdramatic.
"Look, don't get upset over it, it was no big deal." she said quickly which made him suddenly scowl.
"I see." he mumbled dryly sitting back down beside her.
"And about Pansy's death well you can stop suspecting him because... I know that he's innocent." she stated cautiously.
"And just how do you know this?" He asked raising a brow.
"Well...because I was there with him and... well...I'm the one who killed Pansy." She admitted.
Draco gasped at her confession.
"I know that I went too far but please don't hate me, Harry. I did it to help...someone." She didn't dare mention that the one she'd helped had been Malfoy. She knew that Harry would already be disappointed in her for just committing such a crime.
"Just...who else knows this?" He asked curiously.
"Well just you, me, and...Malfoy." She replied slowly.
He nodded slightly.
"Please don't let my confession change things between us." She begged.
"Don't worry, it won't." He blurted out without thinking.
"Huh? It won't?" She asked in disbelief.
"No, because well...our...uh... friendship is...uh... stronger than that, right?" He replied quickly, stumbling over his words.
She smiled slightly at him.
"I'm so glad that our friendship is still this strong. I was worried that after our recent fights, we'd lose it. But, now I feel like I can tell you anything." She said as she put her arms around him and hugged him.
He returned her hug slowly.
He's so warm, I can feel something different with him this time. If only his kisses were like this. She thought.
But then her heart yelled at her. No you don't! You don't want his kisses to be like this! You don't want him to kiss you. There's only one person that you want to kiss!
She gasped silently as suddenly she remembered how Draco's kisses felt. No one can make me feel that certain feeling but him.
But then her mind snapped. Stop it! Stop thinking about that useless ferret! He's the one who just beat you up! Why are you daydreaming about the guy that just hurt you? You've got a warm, caring, guy standing right in front of you. Forget about that cold, cruel, evil, Slytherin! Hermione felt torn.
Her hug on the dark haired young man quickly loosened.
Draco then felt her pull away from him and looked to her curiously.
I could get her to tell me anything easily, like reveal all of the secrets about her and Potter but for some reason I don't want to do that. But I can't stay in this form of Potter forever. Draco thought.
Hermione stared into his eyes a moment. "Harry...I know that I said that I don't feel anything towards you but... there's something different about you now." She said in almost a whisper.
"Is that so?" he asked raising a brow as she slowly slid over closer to him.
"I almost want to..." She cut herself off as she leaned in towards him.
He gasped silently as her lips pressed against his.

Chapter 40-Finally... Feelings Revealed!
As she kissed him, she instantly felt something strong. A familiar feeling. That feeling!
Suddenly, she gasped, realizing this and pulled away quickly. No! This can't be! I just felt the exact same feeling that I felt when Draco and I kissed. She thought.
He blinked rapidly and then shook off the effects of her kiss and stared at her blankly.
Hermione sat there with a look of disbelief on her face.
She found herself thinking back to the times that she and Draco had kissed. She remembered how he'd held her so tight and so close to him. How his touch was unlike anyone else. The warmth she'd felt with him was unlike anything she'd felt before. Flashbacks of the past week they'd spent together began to run through her head. She remembered how they'd gotten along so well. The way they had fought, then made up. The games, the jokes, and the talks. Even the night that she'd killed Pansy didn't seem to be so bad anymore because Draco had been there with her. It was like he gave her strength, determination, and courage. The feelings she'd felt with him were special because she'd felt them only with him.
But now... now suddenly Harry's kisses feel just like Draco's. I don't want that! It's not right! She thought as her bottom lip began to quiver.
Her eyes began to fill with tears, as she continued to think back to the moments that she'd shared with the blonde Slytherin.
And then she suddenly felt angry. This is not right! Harry's kisses aren't supposed to be like Draco's! I don't want them to be! Draco's kisses were...special...and Harry's were so...empty! Argh! Why did I have to feel this feeling with Harry? I'm only supposed to feel it with Draco! Her mind screamed.
Draco too had felt that feeling again and his mind was racing with thoughts. That feeling is still strong. And this proves that no matter what form I'm in; I still get that same strange feeling with her. He thought.
"Oh no..." Hermione mumbled as she suddenly realized something. I shouldn't have kissed him. She mentally snapped at herself.
"Huh? What?" He asked snapping out of his thoughts as he looked to her.
She quickly scooted away from him and glared at the floor. I never should have kissed Harry! It was so wrong...because kissing him gave me the same feeling as I had with Draco.
"What's wrong?" He asked, noticing the now pained look on her face.
"Nothing..." She mumbled as a tear ran down her cheek.
"Oh come on you said you could tell me anything, remember?" He replied repeating her own words back to her. "We're best fr-friends." He spat that last word out with some difficulty.
"You don't want to hear this though." She replied quickly.
"Yes I do, so spill it." He snapped impatiently.
"No, you don't. Trust me on that." She snapped back.
"Oh come on, we've known each other a long time and you know that we don't keep secrets." He replied almost in a drawl.
"Well...it'll make you very upset." She warned nervously.
"I doubt that." He replied with a light chuckle. Then he cleared his throat and added, "Besides, you already told me you killed someone...what could be worse than that?" He joked.
She gave him an odd look. There was something about his eerily calm, and somewhat amused disposition that she couldn't place. It was as if he were a different person.
"Hermione, we've always been...honest with each other." he blurted out firmly.
She sighed then nodded. "You're right, Harry..." she replied with a pained expression. "Well, okay then...here goes..." she began.
Draco nodded and looked to her curiously.
"I just felt a certain... feeling...when we kissed." She said slowly.
"Yeah, so?" He shrugged acting like it was no big deal.
"Well I've only felt that feeling with one other person and it was with...Draco."
"Oh really?" Draco asked curiously, and then he remembered that he was supposed to be acting like Harry so he tried to put on the angriest expression that he could and glared at her.
She cringed then swallowed nervously at the look on his face.
"Now Harry, please calm down. I can explain..." She began hoping that he wouldn't lose his temper.
"Oh I'd love to hear an explanation to this!" Draco chuckled coldly, crossing his arms.
"Well, you see...I...I was curious, you know about what it'd be like kissing him. I mean um...all the other girls have got to kiss him...and so I was curious and so...when he started making moves on me I-I let him kiss me." She said.
Draco suddenly frowned. "That's not how it happened! He didn't make moves on you just like that!" He retorted breaking character for a moment, causing a bewildered look on Hermione's face.
Quickly though, Draco recovered and he added, "I mean Malfoy seems to be more of a er...romantic. He doesn't like to rush into things from what I have seen."
She nodded slowly and then sighed. "You're right, Harry. But I'm not used to him being that way towards me. So maybe it seemed like he moved fast because he's never acted that way to me before." She admitted.
He thought a moment then cleared his throat. "Yeah." he mumbled. Then he cleared his throat. "Ahem...uh...so, did you like the way that he kissed you?" He asked in a lower tone.
She looked at him then away quickly. "Uh...why are you asking me that?" She snapped.
"Well, I...I'm just curious. I mean I am not very experienced and I want to learn how to be romantic. So since we're friends, maybe you could tell me what...you liked about Malfoy's kiss so that I can kind of know what you want." he said bluntly which made Hermione gasp at him with another bewildered look.
"Look, I don't really want to discuss him..." she replied dryly.
"Oh come on, it's just the two of us here, no one else will know." He begged.
"Fine." She said coldly.
"So, what was it that made you want to kiss him?" he asked, staring at her with a serious look of interest on his face.
"Well there were a lot of things that caught my attention. One was his eyes. They were so...captivating. And there was something about the moment we were in, and the way that things were going that caused a strange feeling inside me. It was like a little voice telling me to relax, telling me to enjoy the moment with him..." She suddenly broke off and looked at the dark haired young man. He seemed to be drinking in her every word by the smirk plastered on his face. Seeing it, she frowned bitterly.
"Uh look Harry, why don't you just check out a book on how to be romantic, saying all of this to you is a little awkward and I don't want you teasing me about it later on." She said sharply.
Draco continued to smirk as he watched her actions carefully.
"So, you don't want to talk about him anymore, huh?" He asked trying not to laugh.
"No, I don't!" She snapped with a warning glare.
Draco's smirk faded and he nodded. "Okay, I understand. We don't have to." He replied as he shrugged lazily.
"Thanks because the way I feel about..." She then broke off as a tear fell from her eyes.
Draco raised a brow at her.
"Look what I felt with you just now... was...wrong." She suddenly said swiftly wiping her face.
"Is that so?" he asked, not the least bit surprised by her statement.
"Yes, that is so." She retorted. "Doing something like that was completely foolish!" She scolded more to herself than him.
He groaned impatiently as he'd heard that before. Great! Here she goes on another rant about how wrong her feelings were. He thought rolling his eyes.
"Okay, so the two of us kissing was wrong. Big deal. Why am I not surprised?" He snapped irritably, once again forgetting that he was supposed to be Harry.
"Look I'm sorry, Harry but... feeling what I just felt with you was wrong." She snapped back.
"Really? And just why is that?" He mumbled coldly.
"Because it was with you!" she replied in a slightly cracking voice.
Here we go again! She's repeating the same d**n thing that she said to me before! He thought as he began to chew on the tip of his tongue. But her next words caught him off guard.
"But it wasn't supposed to be with you! It was supposed to be with..." She then stopped and looked down sadly.
He slowly raised a brow at her as he thought about the last part she'd just said. "Well...if it wasn't supposed to be with me, then who was it supposed to be with?" He asked slowly.
"Look, I don't want to talk about-" she began.
"Who!" He demanded in a more sharp tone.
"It...doesn't matter..." She mumbled, sniffling lightly.
"Yes, it does!" he said firmly.
She cringed at his sudden outburst. "Tell me, Hermione!" he growled impatiently.
"Okay, okay calm down geez. I didn't think you'd even care to know." She retorted, rolling her eyes.
"Well, I do. I have to know...now tell me Hermione...please...just...please just say his name." He said, his voice quickly softening, as his green eyes glistened with anticipation.
She looked down nervously, unable to look at him. The thought of even saying Draco's name was already bringing pain to her heart, and even more tears to her eyes.
Come on, Hermione just say it. Say my name. He thought as he looked at her desperately.
"It was supposed to be with...with...Draco." She said, as several tears fell down her cheeks.
Draco breathed a sigh of relief as his name rolled off of her tongue.
He was about lunge forward and embrace her, but she quickly stood up, crossing her arms tightly as she continued on.
"But I...I lost my chance with him Harry." She said as her voice became shaky and unsteady. "Draco and I have been through more than you can even imagine this past week, and...and...and I...I had the chance to...I mean…I thought I had the chance." She stopped long enough to clear her throat and wipe her eyes.
His eyes lowered as she continued on. "I know this sounds crazy but I can't blame him for hurting me. I deserved it! If only I would have been honest with him from the beginning..." She mumbled as yet another tear fell from her eyes. "I mean I said I hated him and I should hate him but the truth is...I...don't." She sobbed.
Draco swallowed as he stood up and moved towards her. "So, you actually have feelings for Malfoy? Even after everything he's done to you?" He asked cautiously.
She nodded hesitantly. "I know that I shouldn't, and I have tried to fight it so hard but... but I...I can't. I can't fight what I feel for him anymore. I'm sorry, Harry but feeling what I felt with you was wrong because Draco is the only one that makes it feel right."
Draco blinked rapidly in disbelief at what she'd just said. She had finally opened up her heart and confessed her true feelings. She wanted to be with him.
"Go back to Ginny, Harry. She's the one you truly want." She said as she looked down.
He cautiously scooted closer to her.
"Tell me something, Hermione, why do you really feel so strongly about...Me-er Malfoy?" He asked catching himself of his mistake and quickly correcting it.
She didn't answer.
"Hermione? Why do you really feel so strongly about Malfoy?" He repeated more firmly as his eyes narrowed.
"I...I don't know. I have many reasons. Maybe... because we were becoming friends or something." She then paused and sighed sadly. "But...but...after his actions toward me earlier, I...I feel confused, angry and... and hurt but...despite that, I can't help but... miss him." She replied hesitantly as another tear fell down her cheek.
Draco felt an overwhelming burning in his heart as she said this. She misses me? He thought.
"But...he hurt you, he attacked you! How can you still like him after that?" He found himself asking in confusion.
"I know that and it's hard to explain why. I...I miss him. And...I still like him." She sobbed. "I have for a long time I just didn't realize it and I was scared at the thought of feeling anything for him because we're supposed to be enemies. But now...even though he was using me, I can't help but...miss...him." she broke off as she sniffled and wiped her eyes.
No, I can't keep this up. I have to tell her the truth. I have to tell her that I'm not Potter. He thought as he watched another tear fall from her eyes.
"Well if you want, I'll go beat him senseless!" Draco snapped infuriated, once again slipping out of character.
"No, please don't start a fight with him." She begged.
"But he hurt you! He was supposed to be your friend!" He snapped. He then suddenly realized that he'd referred to Harry in conversation. Oh no, I messed up again. I hope she didn't notice. He thought.
"Well, we weren't friends yet, but we were getting close to it." He heard her say with a deep sigh, proving that he'd once again managed to dodge another attempt at giving himself away.
"But...it's not really Draco's fault." She said quickly.
"Why do you say that?" He asked curiously.
"Well because he was trying to be nice to me, Harry. Draco Malfoy was actually trying to be nice to me and I was so mean to him. I yelled at him, called him horrible names, and started fights with him half the time."
"Most of the time." he suddenly corrected her.
"What?" She stopped abruptly.
"I said you start the fights most of the time!" He growled. Then he mentally slapped himself as he watched a suspicious frown cross her face.
"And why do you say that I start them most of the time?" She snapped.
"Well because..." Draco had to think of something fast. "Because when you fight with me and Wea-er-Ron, you start the fights most of the time. And though Malfoy is a...er...arrogant pureblood, I'm sure that you've started quite a few fights with him." he said quickly.
She stared at him intently for a moment and then her face softened as she nodded. "You're right, Harry. I did start the fights with him most of the time." She corrected herself. "And I know that I finally pushed him too far and that's why he hurt me. And...I deserved it." she said quietly.
Argh! I can't take anymore of this! I have to tell her the truth! He snapped to himself mentally.
"Hermione, look, I think there's something that I should tell you." He began quickly.
"No Harry, please don't say anything else. It's already painful enough saying this much." She sobbed as she threw her arms around him and cried even more.
Draco embraced her and closed his eyes tightly as he rested his head on her shoulder.
I never used you, Hermione! He thought as he heard her crying again. I may have been rough at times trying to sort out these strange new...feelings...but I swear I was never going to hurt you!
"I wish more than anything that I would have had the guts to tell Draco how I truly felt about him, but I was so afraid that my own stupid fear drove him away. It's my fault that he turned so cold and cruel. It's because I hurt him. I just know it and I...I'm so sorry!" She sobbed against him.
Draco rubbed her back, trying to comfort her as she buried her head in his chest. Everything's okay, Hermione, I'm here. I'm here with you! He thought, as he held her. I have to tell her the truth.
He slowly opened his eyes after a moment and moved one of his hands up to his own cheek.
His eyes widened as he wiped away a single tear that had escaped his eye and trickled down his cheek. I'm crying? What the hell? Malfoys don't cry! I never cry! He thought. That's when he looked up at the mirror and saw blonde streaks slowly appearing in his hair.
The potion was wearing off!
Oh no, not now! He gasped to himself. Please not now! He thought frantically.
Then he looked down at her. She still had her head buried in his chest.
She was so upset that she didn't even notice what was going on. I have to tell her it's me. Then he gasped silently as he looked to the mirror again.
More and more blonde streaks were appearing and the dark hair was fading out. The green tint of his eyes was also vanishing slowly.
nuts! He mentally screamed as his heart began pounding faster and faster. I have to do something but what? He wondered, as he watched his skin tone began to turn more pale and his features become sharp and pointy.
Knowing that his time was running out, he took a deep breath and then reached down and cupped his hand gently over her eyes.
"Harry, what are you doi-" Hermione began but he quickly cut her off.
"Hermione, I want you to do something for me. Don't ask any questions just close your eyes right now and please don't open them until I tell you to." He stated sharply.
"Huh? What for?" She asked.
"Please, Hermione." he said in a low tone.
She nodded."Fine, then." She replied and she did as he said without anymore hesitation.
Draco cautiously removed his hand to discover that her eyes were indeed closed.
What I'm about to do is completely crazy. I don't know what she'll do when she opens her eyes and sees me. But I just know that I have to risk it. He thought, as he swallowed the lump that had appeared in his throat.
He then reached up with a shaky hand and slowly lifted the dark rimmed glasses off of his face.
This is it, Draco. He said to himself as he began to lean towards her slowly.
"Now, I want to know exactly what you feel when I do...this." He said just above a whisper, as he quickly moved in and pressed his lips firmly to hers.

Chapter 41- A Dream Come True
That strange warm feeling engulfed her immediately as she felt the passion from his kiss. Oh no, why is he kissing me again I can't do this...oh how I wish this wasn't Harry. She tried to fight against it but slowly found herself drawn into it. No, I don't want to be kissing Harry like this! This isn't right! Her mind cried.
But despite her mental protests, she couldn't help but get lost in the kiss and in no time she was returning it in the same manner. She let out a little moan in the back of her throat as he moved his hands down onto her waist.
As she leaned in closer to him, she caused him to topple backwards onto the bed. She fell forward right on top of him but they never broke the kiss. Nothing seemed to faze either one of them as they were lost in each other.
Draco then opened his eyes seeing that hers were still closed.
In a swift motion he quickly rolled over to where he was now on top of her.
And then slowly, he pulled away, preparing himself for her reaction.
"Now...Hermione..." He said gently yet almost hesitantly between breaths. "Open your eyes."
She slowly opened her eyes, expecting to meet a pair of green eyes but instead, she found herself staring up into a pair of grey ones. And instead of seeing dark hair and a smile, she saw blonde hair and the trademark smirk that belonged to a certain Slytherin.
"M-Malfoy...? Wh-What?" She gasped as her eyes grew wide.
"Hello, Granger." He replied calmly.
"But...how? When? What? Y-You mean it's been you this whole time?" She asked in disbelief.
He raised a cocky brow. "It's amazing the things you will confess to, in the right company." he sneered.
As he said this, she quickly pushed him off her and sat up glaring at him.
He fell onto the floor but quickly got up regaining his composure and then plopped down right beside Hermione.
"You know, you should be more careful about what you tell Potter." he drawled. "I doubt that he would have reacted so calmly, like I did."
"I...I...don't understand...why? How?" she mumbled shaking her head with confusion. Then her expression turned to an angry one and she jumped up and spun around, glaring daggers at him. "How dare you...you..."
"Now, before you get upset..." he began holding up his hands in a non threatening manner as he slowly stood up.
"I am already upset!" She hissed at him, cutting him off quickly.
"Well before you do something rash..." he snapped watching as she reached for her wand. "like that!" He added as he quickly drew out his own wand and spouted, "Expelliramus!" causing her wand to hit the floor.
"You foul, evil, ferret!" She snapped furiously.
"Look, I don't want to fight." He stated, trying to keep his tone calm.
"Then I suggest you get out of my room this instant!" She warned.
"Not until you hear what I've got to say!" He snapped, becoming somewhat agitated.
"I don't care what you've got to say! You're nothing but a..." He then cut her off.
"d**n it, Granger! Will you just shut up so I can tell you this!" he growled in an annoyed tone.
"Why should I?" She replied bitterly as she walked to the other side of the bed away from him.
"Because, I can explain everything to you." He said as he started to follow her.
She glared back at him and crossed her arms tightly across her chest. "Fine then, talk all you want, I don't care!" she snapped.
"Oh I think you'll care once I'm finished." He replied with a smirk as he leaned against the wall, propping his foot against it.
"Just spit it out already, Malfoy." She said impatiently as she continued to glare daggers at him.
He nodded. "Well first of all, Potter and the Weasels planned to trick you. Potter's been lying to you about wanting to date you. He never dumped Weaselette, I can tell you that. And he's the one who disguised himself and impersonated me-quite poorly I might add-and insulted you earlier." He spoke quickly to keep her from interrupting him.
She blinked rapidly as he continued. "He did it in hopes of keeping us enemies. Anyway, Weasel was supposed to be Potter and 'save’ you, but well I decided to take his place instead." He said as he watched a hurt expression slowly creep across her face. "The three of them made a plan and that's why Potter and Weasel suddenly wanted you back. That's why Potter suddenly started saying he wanted to date you. I know this sounds crazy...but I swear it's the truth." He said quickly.
For a moment she said nothing but her watery eyes showed that she believed him, at least that was what he hoped.
"I tried to tell you the truth, but you wouldn't listen to me." He added lowering his voice slightly.
She sniffled and then uncrossed her arms, allowing her hands to quickly cover her face. She couldn't believe what she was hearing.
There was good few minutes of silence between them before Hermione finally spoke. "How...how did you find all of this out?" She asked suspiciously.
He shrugged then leaned his head against the wall as he brushed back his blonde bangs that were dangling over his eyes."Well, after dinner when you left the Great Hall, Potter and the Weasels snuck off together. I knew something was up by the pathetic way that they were communicating during dinner, so, I decided to follow them and listen in on their conversation."
"And?" She asked, gesturing him to continue.
He let out a deep sigh and then took a few steps toward her as he continued. "And...that's when I heard their plan. I also found out that they're afraid of us." He added with an arrogant smirk.
"Afraid of us?" She asked frowning.
"Well not necessarily us, more like us becoming allies, and joining the Dark Lord." he replied. "That's why they concocted that plan to get us to stay enemies." He frowned as he remembered how Harry had attacked Hermione disguised as him and he bit his lip furiously.
"Potter went as far as pretending to be me and insulting you in my form. He was hoping that you'd hate me so much that you would never give me a chance. He was going to have Weasel pretend to be him and come in and pretend to save you afterwards. And that's when I decided to step in and ruin their plan. I knocked Weasel out and disguised myself as Potter." he stated somewhat proudly.
Hermione sadly looked down.
"I...I can't believe they would do this...to me." She mumbled almost in a whisper. "They...they've been my best friends for so long..." She then broke off and looked at her hands as she quietly slipped into her thoughts. How could Harry and Ron stoop so low? She thought. I don't understand.
Because they're cruel, Hermione. They care nothing for you. Something inside of her whispered. Harry insulted you on purpose because he didn't want you to join Draco.

Don't believe that nonsense. came her conscience. Harry and Ron love you very much and what they did is called tough love. They were trying to protect you from the enemy. And like it or not Hermion; Draco Malfoy is the enemy.
"That's not all." He said, interrupting her thoughts.
She lifted her head and looked to him.
He then explained the rest of the story to her.
"But even Ron was in on it?" She mumbled. "After all the time that he's spent pouring his heart out about how much he cares for me, I didn't think he would agree to doing something so low."
"Well, Weasel had a motive." Draco replied with a lazy sigh. "He was going to play on your vulnerability so that you would fall for him. Potter told him that he was going to upset you so bad that you'd be running into his arms and well after that, Weasel was more eager than ever to go along with it. He's got and obsession with you, Granger and an unhealthy one at that." he said slowly. "Those three did all of this in hopes of making you hate me so much that there would be no reason for you to stray from their little group."
"Why? Why would they worry about that so much, to go to the point of creating a deceitful plan like this?" She asked incredulously as she sat down on her bed.
"I wish I could tell you but I don't know." He replied shaking his head slowly as he sat beside her.
There was a short silence before he continued on.
"Well, like I said before. They're worried about us joining together and helping the Dark Lord. That much is clear." He said rubbing his head.
"So, they're that afraid of us becoming allies and joining Voldemort?" She asked.
"Well...yeah." he replied nodding slightly.
"But that's ridiculous! I'd never betray them! I would never turn my back on those I care about!" She snapped loudly.
He chuckled darkly as she said this. "But Granger, you already have! You've already betrayed Potter and those other followers of Dumbledore." He replied with a twisted smile.
"No I haven't." She retorted once again glaring at him.
"Yes, you have." He replied as a malicious gleam appeared in his eyes. "You seem to have forgotten a few things so let me refresh your memory."
He then smirked and scooted closer to her. She stayed put, eyeing him warily.
"For starters," he began. "You went to find my father in the Forbidden forest and the Dark Lord happened to be there as well. You were trying to help free me from the contract. In fact from what you said the Dark Lord saved you from being killed by my father. And then he convinced my father to give you a chance. My father told you that you had to kill Pansy in order to break the contract, right?" He said.
She nodded slowly.
"And then after speaking with both the Dark Lord and my father, you never told anyone but me; who just so happens to be the son of a Death Eater; about your meeting with them; which means that you already betrayed Dumbledore and your so-called friends just by doing that alone. Now moving on to the second bit of your proof of betrayal. You actually went through with killing Pansy and not in just any manner. No, you used the Killing Curse on her. That is the trademark spell of the Dark Lord and his followers." he stated firmly. "And when my father and the Dark Lord saw what you'd done, they were pleased. The Dark Lord animated Pansy's corpse so that we would not get blamed for her death. And it was a good plan too...until Weaselette opened her mouth to Potter. Not to worry about her, though. I've taken care of that nosey girl." He sneered.
"What do you mean?" She asked curiously.
"I stunned her. She won't wake up for quite a while." He said proudly.
"I see." She mumbled.
"Now, as I was saying, you have betrayed Potter and the others. And the reason that I say that is..." He smirked as he reached over and ran his fingers lightly through a few strands of her hair. "You’ve become allies with...me."
She swallowed nervously. "I...I didn't really think about things in that perspective." she mumbled as her soft brown eyes met his cold, grey ones.
He chuckled at her response.
"You never look at things from more than one perspective, Granger." He drawled. "That's why you falter so many times."
"I don't falter." She snapped defensively.
He knew that they'd be fighting again soon. The conversation was already heated so he did something out of the ordinary. He changed the subject.
"So, you missed me, huh?" he asked raising a brow with a slight chuckle.
"No..." She replied hesitantly with an uneasy expression.
"You just said you did when you thought I was Potter." He pointed out.
"Well, I didn't mean it." She snapped.
He rolled his eyes and then gently ran his hand through her hair again. "I know your true feelings about me now, Granger so there's no need to deny them anymore." he said with a triumphant smirk.
She stared up at him a moment. "Look, admitting something like this isn't easy for me, especially to you. I...I don't know why I have these feelings for you...I just know that I... do." She replied with a nervous frown.
His eyes lowered and his smirk faded away as a softness appeared in his grey eyes.
"You don't have to be afraid of how you feel about me." He said slowly almost sincerely. "It's not like I'm going to hurt you."
"How can I believe that? How can I even trust you? I mean, look at what Harry did to me. He was supposed to be my best friend. Even if he was trying to make me believe that he was you, he went too far! So, how do I know that you won't do the same thing? I mean I don't even know what side you're really on. For all I know, you might be planning to turn me in whenever it's convenient for you." she said sharply.
He frowned and then shook his head slowly, with a look of frustration upon his pale face.
"If you want to know whether you can trust me or not, consider the fact that you are still alive and not in Azkaban." He snapped coldly.
She blinked as he continued. "About Potter, well I will deal with him soon enough." he sneered as he ran his hand lightly over her wounded side. She winced slightly but soon relaxed.
"Do you remember what I said to Potter that scared him that day that you and I tricked him into thinking we were together?" He asked as his arms snaked around her waist.
She slowly allowed him to pull her into his warm embrace and she found herself relaxing in his arms.
"So, do you remember what I said?" He asked gently.
She thought a moment but for some reason couldn't remember what he'd said for she was captivated by the warmth of his touch. "I...I remember you were able to scare Harry but I don't remember exactly what you said to him." She replied as she looked into his grey eyes.
"Then let me refresh your memory." He said as he stared into her soft brown eyes. "I told him that if I ever saw him hurt you again, I would kill him." He said sharply. "And...after the way he's treated you, I'm now tempted to follow through with that threat." He added coldly.
His words were spoken in such a spine tingling, dark tone that they made her tremble slightly. But she wasn't afraid. No, she was surprised that the Slytherin Prince himself seemed to actually care about her. After all the years of being insulted and tormented by him, she was now embraced in his arms. And oddly she felt safe; safer than she had ever felt when Ron or Harry had held her. But at the same time she was confused. There were two sides to her battling against each other. And she knew that sooner or later one of them would triumph over the other. Which one? was the question.
"And as for wondering what side I'm on, well that answer will come soon enough." He said in a low tone.
She swallowed nervously. I don't know what to do. I want to be with him but I don't know if I should. He seems to truly care about me, and I feel like I care about him. Plus, I am really hurt and upset with Harry and Ron. But, should I really give in to Draco? Should I really trust him? She thought.
No! He's the enemy! Don't betray your real friends for a crush! You've worked so hard striving towards your future of being an Auror. You want to help the wizarding world banish dark wizards like him! Coming to Hogwarts was what you had to do to gain the necessary knowledge that would push you more towards your goal! Don't just throw all of that away! her conscience screamed.
Don't think about that! came her other more darker side. You've spent most of your life doing what everyone tells you, what everyone expects of you. You've never really made a decision on your own. And then you met and befriended Harry Potter. And when you got to Hogwarts you were so in awe of being in the presence of the Boy-Who-Lived, that you became more careless. You hung out with him and that Ron Weasley so much that you began neglecting your studies. Every year that passed, you focused more and more on helping those two, even becoming part of their little group which formed into the Golden Trio. And you abandoned your drive to learn, to excel, to succeed. And for what? To help those two out so that they could turn around and plot against you? Think about the sick little game that they just played on you! Think about how Harry insulted you! How he upset you! She gasped silently as she felt a warm hand caress her cheek. She snapped out of her thoughts and looked at Draco.
Draco's upset me before too though. He almost choked me. She thought as she remembered the night that he'd briefly shown a part of himself that had really scared her. He seemed so dark, so evil that night. He could have killed me. She thought.
But he didn't, did he? Her darker side chimed in. He could have killed you at any time but he didn't. Even after all these years, he hasn't even tried. The furthest he went was he insulted you and made idle threats to scare you. Hermione felt even more torn at hearing this.
Draco cares about you, Hermione. Harry and Ron don't. Yes, you and Draco were enemies for so many years. But you should let that go. Think about now. Look at what's happened between the two of you. You've both been looking out for each other without even knowing it. He hasn't ratted you out nor has he tried to really hurt you has he?
No, but I feel like I'm venturing into a forbidden place. I feel like I'm losing myself and that he's pulling me into the darkness with him. She thought suddenly feeling panicked.
That's not true. Draco isn't the one to blame for the path that you're slowly starting to take. You are! From the moment that you opened your heart to him that very first time, you were drawn to him and to the side opposite of whom you've always supported. The only thing Draco has done is given you a broader look at things and helped you. And he's here with you now to continue to do so. If you truly want to find out where you belong, then trust him.
"Hermione, are you alright?" Draco asked as his voice broke through her mental conflict.
She nodded slowly as she stared at him. "I'm fine, I was just thinking." She replied softly as her eyes began to water again. And then another tear fell down her cheek.
Draco moved his hand up and wiped it away. "Everything's okay now, Hermione. I'm here." He said gently.
Those words!
He had spoken them each time she had had a dream about him.
But this was not a dream.
It was real this time. He was real. He was really there saying those comforting words.
He was really there.
"Oh Draco..." She cried as she moved forward and began kissing him with a fiery passion.
"Hermione..." he mumbled against her lips as he kissed her hungrily as they fell back on the bed together.
Then he rolled over on top of her and smirked. "You're not going to knock me off again, are you?" he teased.
She giggled and then put her arms around his neck, holding him tightly against her. "Does this answer your question?" She asked with a smirk of her own.
He smiled then moved his hands carefully up and down her sides, and finally gripped onto her hips tightly as they fell into another long, passionate kiss.
It seemed to go on for several minutes until both noticed that they needed a little something called air.
After a few minutes they pulled away from each other.
She put her hand over her rapidly beating heart, as she took a few moments to catch her breath.
He slid off of her and sat up on the edge of the bed trying to regain his composure.
She slowly sat up too, brushing her messy curly locks out of her face.
With a slight smile Draco stood up and straightened his clothes.
Hermione watched him curiously. I can't believe it. Draco and I just kissed again! And I felt that feeling. I've only felt it with him and no one else which makes me think...could it be that maybe we were meant to be together? She found herself suddenly thinking.
I've never felt this feeling with any other girl before. I've only felt it with Granger which makes me wonder...was she and I destined to be together? He thought as his grey eyes shifted to the brunette slowly.
Then he smirked to himself as he recalled the conversation that he'd overheard between Harry, Ron, and Ginny. Potter and the Weasels' fear of me and Granger being together has come true. If they were willing to go to the great lengths of hurting her, then the power between us must be quite strong. But how do I tap into it? How do I use it? He wondered.
Hermione was having an inner conflict as her conscience began to try to break through to her. Hermione, how could you sink this low? It said. You've turned your back on the very cause that you were fighting for. You've betrayed Dumbledore!
She gasped silently as her conscience said this. Have I really betrayed Dumbledore? She found herself thinking as she looked at the floor. Then her conscience spoke again. Of course you have, Hermione and in more ways than one. You've crossed the line and not only helped the enemy but you've fallen into the darkness with him as well. Your bitter jealousy and hatred of Harry and Ginny's relationship was one of the milestones that pushed you this far. It festered deep within you growing more and more until you unleashed it in the form of the Killing Curse, which you used on Pansy. And why? Just because you didn't want her to have Draco? You shouldn't have even gotten involved with him in the first place! He's a Death Eater for crying out loud! He's a follower of Voldemort! You can't be with him or else you'll be joining him! You will become a Death Eater as well!
Then suddenly the darker side of her spoke. Don't let you guilty conscience ruin the happiness that you've found. Yes, you killed Pansy, but you did it because you cared about Draco! You wanted to help him which is why you went seeking out his father. You used the jealousy and hatred that you felt to your advantage and it gave you a great power. Not just anyone can utter a Killing Curse so easily. You have to have the strong urge to kill in your heart or it will not work. And you did, which is why you were able to free Draco from her.
She winced slightly, getting a headache as she listened to both her conscience and her darker side. Stop! I don't want to think about this anymore! She mentally screamed. Quickly, the two voices faded away.
Just then the clock chimed two. Draco and Hermione were both snapped out of their thoughts.
"Two already?" Draco mumbled incredulously. "We'd better get to bed." He added as he looked to her.
She nodded. "Well, I'm in my bed already." She teased grinning at him.
"Very funny." He replied with a smirk.
Then he turned to go.
"Wait, where are you going?" She asked as he moved towards the door.
"Well I'm going to my room, Granger so that I can get some sleep." He answered with a light chuckle.
She slowly stood up. "Well, you know you don't have to go to your room...I mean since you are already here logically it's best for you to stay..." she suggested with a tint of red on her cheeks.
"Ah...I get it." He replied arrogantly nodding."You can't stand me being away from you, can you? Even though my room is right next door." he added as he chuckled.
"No, that's not it! I was just stating a logical reason of why you should stay here. We have to get up in a few hours for school anyway so you could just stay with me." She said trying to sound firm but her nervousness gave her away.
He shrugged then walked over and put his hands on her waist. "Fine then, I'll stay." He mumbled as he moved in closer to her. "Besides, we'll finally get to sleep together." He added.
She shot him a dirty look. "Excuse me?" She snapped frowning slightly.
He rolled his eyes and laughed lightly. "Get your head out of the gutter, Granger. I wasn't implying anything like that! I was simply stating that it would be nice to be able to sleep next to the girl that I want to be with." He replied.
She blinked rapidly and blushed.
Then she turned and pulled back the covers on her side of the bed.
Draco did the same on the other side.
Hermione laid down and let out a relaxing sigh.
Draco stretched and then plopped into the bed beside to her.
"Well since we have to be up in a few hours, I hope you don't snore. I can't be late to Snape's class again, you know." he said with a playful chuckle.
"I'll have you know that I do not snore. However, speaking of that, I'm hoping you don't snore either because I'd like to rest peacefully." She replied with a slight smirk.
"Oh you want to rest peacefully?" He asked raising an amused brow.
"Yes." She answered.
"Well I do too." he retorted. Then he reached out and put his arms around her and pulled her in close to him. "Okay, now I think I can rest peacefully." He said and he held her against him.
She smiled slightly and didn't fight him for she knew that being in his warm embrace was exactly where she wanted to be.
"Good night, Draco." She whispered as she snuggled against him and closed her eyes.
"Good night Hermione." He whispered back as he shut his eyes too.
Then moments later, the two fell asleep.

Chapter 42-Worry and Suspicion
Harry had returned to his usual form and now sat drumming his fingers impatiently on the couch in the Gryffindor common room.
Ron and Ginny still aren't back. He thought with a frustrated sigh.
In truth, he wasn't really all that worried about Ron because he figured that he was with Hermione. He's probably still going on and on confessing his undying love to Hermione. He thought.
Then he scowled as he remembered what Hermione had said about liking Draco. He wiped his lips with the back of his hand, frowning as he remembered how she had kissed him thinking that he was the real Draco.
How could she act that way? How could she confess to liking that git? He thought, shaking his head frustrated. Malfoy must have put a spell on her or something. He thought but he didn't really believe that. Then he thought about the way that he'd tricked her into believing that he was Malfoy. He frowned at the way he had treated her. I didn't want to insult her. I didn't want upset her. But I had to. I had to do it for her own good! She admitted that she actually liked that ferret so I had to do it. And I think it worked. I think that I convinced her that Malfoy is evil. And that she realizes now that he is the enemy. She even told me she hated me, thinking that I was him! He let out a sigh of relief. I think maybe now she will think twice about trusting the enemy again. But his moment of relief was short-lived as suddenly he found different, unnerving thoughts wandering into his head.
But...what if I'm wrong? He questioned himself. What if Hermione tries to talk to the real Malfoy about what happened? He won't have a clue what she's talking about. What if she cools down and suddenly forgives him? Even if he doesn't know what she's talking about, he will most likely try to take advantage of the situation. That's Malfoy! He always tries to take advantage of any situation. Hermione may even go so far as to throw herself into his arms anyway; which will most likely entice him even more because, again; That is the way Malfoy is! And since he's all about conquests he won't hesitate to get her in bed and...Stop it! Don't even think that way. He suddenly scolded himself, shaking his head. Then he took a deep breath as he tried to rationalize with himself. Just because Hermione likes him, and keeps his secrets, doesn't mean she'll do that with him! She's smarter than that! He snapped.
But no matter how hard he tried to make himself believe that, he couldn't. Mostly because of the nagging feeling in his gut, that kept his suspicions high. He wanted to ignore it though. He wanted to believe that she was under one of Draco's spells. He wanted to pretend that she hadn't said that she liked Draco. And he wanted to forget her kiss and the bit about her keeping Draco's secrets. He wanted to believe that she was still his friend, and that she would be loyal to him till the end.
But now he was confused by her actions. Never before had he questioned her loyalty in the past. Even despite their fights, and arguments; when it came to serious matters beyond Hogwarts, the thought of her turning on him had never crossed his mind. That is, until now. Then suddenly he jumped up shaking his head quickly.
No! I won't think that way. Hermione is not a traitor. She'd never betray me. She'd never betray Dumbledore or the Order! She's loyal! He shouted loudly in his mind. Then he felt it was best to try to think of something else.
He paced back and forth slowly before finally glancing to the clock. Ron's still not back and neither is Ginny. He thought. Then he plopped back down on the couch twirling his thumbs a moment before sighing loudly.
I shouldn't be all worried about Ron. I mean he's with Hermione...and they deserve to be left alone... He suddenly frowned at this. But if she did actually turn on us... He suddenly gasped as a horrifying image flashed through his mind.
Hermione was standing there talking with Ron when suddenly Draco appeared quietly behind him. Hermione, knowing the blonde Slytherin was there, quickly distracted the red headed young man as Draco blasted him with the Killing Curse. Hermione grinned wickedly at what he'd done and Draco strode over and pulled her into a deep, passionate kiss.
Harry let out a frustrated growl and shook the daydream away. No! That's ridiculous! Hermione wouldn't have reacted like that, even if she does have a crush on that Slytherin git! She wouldn't have helped him; she would have helped Ron instead! He mentally snapped.
Then he pulled off his glasses briefly to rub his itchy eye, and then placed them back on his face. He then decided not to worry about Ron. He knew that the red head was quite capable of handling things himself.
And then his thoughts turned to Ginny. She, on the other hand was another matter. She'd gone to see Draco in the form of Hermione. Though he hadn't said anything about that, deep down, Harry was jealous. Not because he was afraid of Draco finding out that Ginny was in disguise; but of the fact that Draco might actually be able to seduce her. He was notorious for seducing girls with just a few words. And though Harry felt he could trust her, he knew that Ginny was still young and naive. If Draco said the right thing to her, she would probably buckle and give in to him. Harry shook his head. He didn't want to think anymore of that. He sighed and then looked to the clock again. It was now a quarter after two and Ginny still hadn't returned.
If that git laid a single hand on her, I'll hex him into oblivion! Harry thought as lay his head back against the couch and closed his eyes. Where is she? he wondered. And then his eyes flew open again.
"How could I be so stupid?" He growled loudly. The Marauder’s map would show me where they are! Ugh! I can't believe I forgot about it! He thought as he quickly stood up.
But just then, the Gryffindor portrait door opened and in staggered a dust covered Ron.
"Ron? Are you okay?" Harry asked as his red headed friend plopped down on the couch holding his head.
"Bloody hell, my head hurts." Ron groaned.
Harry sat down and patted his friend's shoulder. "I take it that it was a long night eh?" Harry said with a sigh.
"You got that right. I didn't realize how long I'd been laying there." Ron replied as he coughed a couple of times.
"What do you mean?" Harry asked curiously.
"Well, I woke up in a dark corner with this splitting headache. I swear it seemed like it took me forever to get here." the redhead grumbled.
"Well you couldn't have been knocked out for too long. I mean it was probably just a few minutes." Harry stated calmly.
"No, it was much longer than that." Ron replied shaking his head. "I had to of been out for a few hours at least."
"That's not possible Ron, because not even forty-five minutes ago we carried out our plan against Hermione and I left you two up in the tower together." Harry replied.
Ron's face scrunched into a look of confusion as his friend continued on. "I must say you were very convincing playing as me! I was quite impressed that you pulled the whole thing off so well." the dark haired young man complimented.
Ron looked to Harry with an uneasy expression. "I don't know what you're talking about, Harry. I couldn't have been there." he replied sharply.
Harry rolled his eyes. "Of course you were there, Ron. We even carried out the plan. You came rushing in to save Hermione disguised as me, remember?" Harry retorted.
"No, Harry, I'm telling you that I wasn't there! I have been lying on the bloody floor; in a dusty corner of the Astronomy Tower, for I don't know how long. I didn't even wake up until twenty minutes ago!" Ron grumbled rubbing his head.
Harry looked confused for a moment then his eyes narrowed. "Wait, are you telling me that you aren't the one that I left Hermione alone with?" He mumbled as a terrible thought came to him.
"Of course not. And what do you mean by you left Hermione alone?" Ron asked slowly, noticing the almost enraged look that had now appeared on Harry's face.
"Ron, I've got a very bad feeling..." muttered the dark haired young man.
"About what?" Ron asked, looking more confused than ever.
"I'll be right back." Harry snapped as he rushed up to their dorm.
Ron blinked then winced as he looked down at the floor, still holding his aching head.
Moments later Harry rushed back down and over to his friend.
He sat down on the couch and spoke the words that would unveil the Marauder's map; to the empty parchment in his hand.
Instantly his eyes began scanning over the map as it slowly appeared.
Ron leaned over and searched the map with his eyes as well.
Harry suddenly gasped as he looked at the Head's room. Hermione and Draco's names were so close together that they bled through each other.
"He's in her room with her!" Harry blurted out.
"Huh? who's room? What?" Ron asked frantically.
"Malfoy! He's in Hermione's room with her!" Harry snapped jumping up. "I think Malfoy must have gotten a hold of some of the Polyjuice potion and turned himself into me!"
"Bloody Hell!" Ron growled.
"Malfoy tricked me into thinking that he was you disguised as me earlier, and I left him alone with Hermione! d**n!" Harry snarled angrily.
"But he couldn't have known the plan, Harry. Only you, me, and Ginny knew and none of us would tell that git about it!" Ron snapped throwing his hands up in frustration.
"I know. But it just annoys me how he would know about the potion and also how did he get my hair to use it?" Harry wondered.
"The Hufflepuff girls could have said something to him." Ron said frowning darkly.
"No, they didn't know about our plan. The only thing they knew was that we were going to use the potion." Harry replied. "Besides, even if they did know and had told him, that doesn't explain how he got my hair!"
"True." Ron mumbled, rubbing his forehead thinking. "The only person that had pieces of your hair were me; which I used immediately and Ginny who was holding on to extra strands of both our hair in case we needed them."
Then suddenly both Harry and Ron's eyes widened.
"Ginny!" They both blurted out at the same time.
"She must have said something to him! It's the only way that Malfoy could have found out." Ron muttered. "I knew my sister was a blabbermouth but I didn't think that she would actually tell Malfoy about our plans!"
Harry shook his head slowly. "I honestly don't think that Ginny would just volunteer out information like that." He replied. " But Malfoy could have put a spell on her or even threatened her." He added coldly.
"Maybe...but he wouldn't know that she had pieces of our hair, would he?" Ron asked.
"True..." Harry agreed with a reluctant nod.
Then he started searching over the map again. He found Ginny's name and looked at it puzzled.
"Ron, your sister is in one of the classrooms down the corridor from the Head's dormitory. She's not moving around she just seems to be...sitting there." Harry commented as his red headed friend leaned over to take a look at the map.
"That or...laying..." Ron replied worriedly.
Then the two looked to each other with uneasy expressions.
"Something's not right, Ron." Harry said sharply as he shook his head.
"I agree Harry."
"Look, let's first go make sure your sister is alright, then after that, we're going to confront Malfoy." Harry said firmly.
Ron nodded.
Then just as they were about to leave Harry stopped. "Hang on, I'll be right back." He said as he rushed up to their dorm. Then a few moments later he returned, holding the Invisibility Cloak in his hand. "Almost forgot this." He exclaimed.
"Ready?" Ron asked.
Harry nodded. "Yeah, let's go!" He replied as he draped the cloak over them.
Then the two turned and rushed out of the common room.
"This way." Harry whispered as he and Ron rushed down corridor after corridor.
"We're almost there." he said as they turned the corner. Then the two pushed opened the door to the dark classroom.
"I can't see anything. It's too dark." Ron complained as Harry pulled the cloak off of them.
Then the dark haired young man pulled out his wand and whispered. "Lumos!"
A dim light appeared at the tip of Harry's wand and lit up the room just enough for them to see.
Suddenly, they looked at the floor with wide eyes.
"Ginny!" they both gasped as they knelt down beside the unconscious girl.
"Is she...dead?" Ron asked fearfully.
"No, she's just knocked out." Harry replied as he felt her pulse in her wrist.
"That ferret!" Ron snarled cracking his knuckles.
"I'll wake her up." Harry said pointing his wand at her. "Enervate!" he said firmly.
Moments later, Ginny's head began to rock back and forth slowly.
"She's waking up." Ron announced. Harry simply nodded.
Then the red haired girl slowly opened her eyes to see the two staring down at her.
"Harry? Ron?" She mumbled rubbing her head as she slowly sat up.
"Ginny, are you okay?" Ron asked in a concerned tone.
"I think so." She replied softly, as she looked around trying to get her bearings.
"What happened? What did Malfoy do to you?" Harry asked sharply.
"I...I don't know..." She mumbled slowly. "All I remember was him pointing his wand at me. I don't know what he did after that."
"Ginny, did you tell him anything about our plan? About the Polyjuice potion?" Harry asked hesitantly.
She hesitated before slowly answering. "Well not exactly."
"What do you mean by that?" Ron asked rolling his eyes.
"Well, Malfoy knew right away because he is the one who mentioned the plan, and he demanded to know who you two were going to turn into. I never told him any of that. He just came right out and said it." she replied.
"Then he must have been spying on us, listening in when we were talking in that classroom before." Harry grumbled. "Just like that stupid git to do that!"
Just then Ginny gasped as she patted her pocket. "Oh no, the box that contained the vials of both of your hair is gone!"
Ron raised a brow and then saw a tiny black box with gold trim under one of the desks.
He reached down and picked it up.
"That's the box!" Ginny exclaimed as she saw it.
Ron opened it then frowned. "It's empty." he said showing it to them.
"Well, we know how Malfoy got my hair now." Harry grumbled.
Ginny nodded. Then she frowned as she remembered something.
"So, before Malfoy knocked you out, did you find out anything that would tie him to the murder of Pansy?" Harry asked curiously.
"Well as far as a true confession, no. Of course, he was rather uneasy and he made me tell him about everything that I saw that night." She said as a grim look crossed her face.
"What?" Ron asked cracking his knuckles. "Did he hurt you?" He asked.
"No, but...well..." She then stopped, now frowning even more.
"But what?" Harry coaxed her to go on.
"Well...he did let something slip, that up until now, I hadn't really given much thought to." She replied looking rather uneasy.
"What?" Harry asked with concern.
"He said that...Hermione knows the truth about what happened that night." Ginny replied slowly looking to them.
Harry's eyes narrowed. "Is that so?" he asked in a cold tone.
"But, Malfoy could have just been lying." Ron stated quickly shaking his head. "I mean you know how much those two hate each other. He could have just been saying that to make us suspicious of her."
"Maybe he did...but then again, maybe he didn't." Ginny said slowly recalling the brief look of uneasiness on Draco's face when he'd almost accidentally spilled the truth. "As strange as this may sound, I'm almost willing to believe that what slipped out was the truth."
"No way, sis! You're talking crazy now!" Ron retorted. "Hermione would never hide something like that from us!"
"For Merlin's sake, Ron!" Ginny snapped at him. "You're so lovesick over her that you refuse to find any faults about her. You can't even see her in a different perspective."
"Ginny, with all due respect I can see things from other perspectives, but in this case there is no need to. Harry and I have known Hermione for a long time and we refuse to believe that she would hide something as serious as this. Right, Harry?"
But Harry's expression darkened as he remembered what Hermione had said to him in the tower before he had lost his temper with her. And his uneasy thoughts from earlier resurfaced.
"You know that I have kept every secret that you've told me, from Harry and the others." Hermione had said to him when she'd thought that he was Draco.
And she'd also said that she liked the Slytherin which had infuriated Harry to the point of lashing out at her.
"Harry?" Ron asked nervously seeing his dark haired friend scowling.
"Harry, are you okay?" Ginny asked concerned as she put a hand on the side of his cheek.
He welcomed her warm touch, but could not relax from it.
"You're right, Ginny. Hermione knows a lot of things about Malfoy. You two weren't there when she admitted that to me, thinking that I was that stupid ferret! She...she likes him...and she said that she's been keeping every secret that he's told her." Harry snapped in a cold tone. "And if she'd do that, then she might have even been involved with Pansy's murder."
"I have to agree with you." Ginny replied nodding slowly.
"I think that maybe...we have a second suspect." Harry stated suspiciously as his eyes narrowed.
This accusation made Ron's face twist into an angry frown. He could not believe that they were accusing the girl that he loved of being involved with a murder.
"No..." Ron muttered. "That's...that's ridiculous!"
"Actually, it's not as ridiculous as you may think." Harry retorted. "Especially after the way that she's been behaving."
Furiously, Ron jumped to his feet glaring at the two of them. Harry stood up too but more slowly as he met Ron's angry glare.
"Ron, now calm down. I know you're upset to hear this but..." Harry began calmly but Ron cut him off.
"You're...you're wrong about her, Harry! Wrong! Hermione's not like that!" Ron shouted loudly now pacing angrily, his nostrils flaring.
"Shhh Ron, you're going to wake up the whole castle!" Ginny snapped at her brother.
But Ron shook his head glaring hard at the two of them.
"Look, we may have all had a few little fights with her, and she may have played a few jealousy games, but she would never, ever help commit a crime like that! She'd never help You-Know-Who and...and I hate you Harry for even thinking it!" Ron shouted furiously.
"Ron..." Both Ginny and Harry gasped at what the red headed young man had said.
Ron seemed to be on the verge of tears as Harry and Ginny looked to each other shaking their heads.
"You are both crazy! Crazy to even believe the words of that ferret! Crazy enough to question Hermione's loyalty. She's on our side! She's a Gryffindor! And only those with good, pure hearts would be in Gryffindor!" Ron shouted even louder. "I should have never gone along with that stupid plan of yours! I shouldn't have let you upset her! I should have just told her it was all a trick! I should have..." His voice trailed off as he ranted on.
"Ron, a lot has changed throughout these years! We've changed!" Harry snapped, growing impatient. "And Hermione has changed as well!" He added clenching his teeth.
"Obviously you have changed, especially after you and my sister started dating." Ron retorted bitterly. Then he cleared his throat and continued. "First, you flaunt your relationship around, which was quite annoying. And now you two have the nerve to team up together and accuse my girlfriend; also known as one of our best friends, of helping the ferret and You-Know-Who. You're both mental!"
"Now you just hold on a minute, Ronald Weasley!" Ginny squeaked as she poked Ron in the chest with her finger. "Harry was just stating his thoughts, his suspicions and I happen to agree with them! He didn't outright accuse Hermione, he was just saying what he felt!"
"Well, he had no right saying it!" Ron retorted as he turned and punched the wall behind him. "I'm sorry that mine and Hermione's relationship isn't picture perfect like yours and Harry's, but at least I am willing to stand up for her against anyone!" Ron snapped.
"Ron...you're delusional. You and Hermione don't have a relationship!" Ginny snapped at him.
"Yes we do!" Ron retorted.
"No, you don't Ron." Harry cut in. "Your so-called relationship is made up of nothing but your feelings for her! She doesn't feel the same way about you! She does however feel that way towards Malfoy! And you have to face that! You have to be willing to see the truth!"
"No! No! No! Hermione loves me! I know she does! She...she just has to accept her real feelings...which I am determined to help her find!" The red headed young man replied firmly.
"Ron, you already tried dating her and on the first day, she jumped on me and kissed me!" Harry replied throwing his hands up in the air. "Don't you remember that? I know you were hurt about it!" "Not to mention bitter." Ginny added quietly.
"Well...I might have pushed my heart at her a little too quickly so I figure that if I just slow it all down maybe we can start dating again." Ron mumbled.
Ginny and Harry shook their heads; they knew that Ron was too delusional to listen to them, so they decided to just drop it.
"Look, I'm going to the Head's room and spy on Hermione and Malfoy. You two go back to the common room." Harry said quickly throwing the cloak over himself.
Just then they heard the meow of cat from behind them.
The three turned to see Mrs. Norris sitting in the doorway.
"Who's in there?" growled a disgruntled Filch as he poked his head in.
Then he smiled wickedly as he saw Ron, and Ginny.
"Well, well, I know just what to do with the two of you." He sneered. Harry stood silently under his cloak as he watched Ron and Ginny follow Filch out of the classroom.
He waited a moment for their footsteps to die away and then hurried out and down the corridor towards the Head's room.

Chapter 43-Programming Potter
Hermione was sleeping soundly, however Draco was not. His sleep had been invaded by a very disturbing dream.
~*The Dream~*
There he was, in a faceoff with Harry Potter. Both had their wands drawn.
"So, it's finally come down to just you and me, Malfoy!" Harry snarled hatefully.
"Indeed it has, Potter." Draco sneered with a menacing gleam in his eyes.
Hermione was standing to the side, watching the two with a fearful expression on her face.
"You guys, please don't do this!" She called out to them.
"Stay out of this, Hermione. This is between me and Potter!" Draco snarled at her. Then he turned and scowled at his dark-haired enemy.
"Yeah, don't interfere, Hermione." Harry snapped as he glared back at the blonde Slytherin.
And then suddenly the two attacked each other at the same time. Both fell backwards from each other's blasts.
Hermione watched the battle biting on her lip worriedly.
Then suddenly there was a loud explosion and the two were knocked to the floor. Harry and Draco lay just inches from each other.
"Draco! Harry!" Hermione cried out.
Then suddenly the two jumped to their feet, clutching their wands.
Hermione shook her head and then suddenly drew her own wand out.
"Stop it, both of you!" She shouted, now in a more angry tone.
The two boys looked at her.
"I can't stand seeing you two fighting like this. I hate having to jump from one side to the other. It's not fair!" She shouted at them.
"You're right, it's not fair." Draco snapped. "It's not fair that I have to keep wondering if you are going to turn on me."
"What?" She gasped.
"You will have to either choose to be completely loyal to him or me!" Draco spoke in a cold, dark tone.
"That's right." Harry snarled in a tone similar to Draco. "You can't be allies with both of us, and if you keep helping Malfoy, I will have to keep worrying if you're really on my side. So, you must make a choice. You're either my friend or my enemy."
"Wh-What?" She gasped at them, as her eyes widened.
"You have to choose whose side you're really on." Draco replied.
"But...I...I can't choose between you guys! I..." She cried as her eyes filled with tears.
"You have to." Both Harry and Draco snapped at the same time.
"Malfoy and I are on opposite sides, Hermione." Harry said slowly. "And that means that we are always going to be enemies. There will be a war soon. So, you have to choose what side you're going to be on."
"No! How can you both do this to me! How can you make me choose between you?" she shouted.
"It should be an easy choice, Hermione." Harry said gently. "You and I have always been so close all these years. And we've stood by each other for so long. I'm willing to forgive you for everything you've done. I'm willing to help you find your way out of the darkness that has engulfed you. Just come back to me, Hermione. Come back to me."
"Harry..." Hermione gasped as her eyes watered.
Draco's eyes narrowed. "Don't listen to him, Hermione!" he snapped sharply as he looked to her. "You're not a little lost puppy. You're following the path that you want to for once. Potter is just trying to pull you back into his shadow. Don't let him! He doesn't care about you like I do!"
"Draco..." She sobbed.
Then she began to look back and forth between them.
"Think of all the years that I've been there for you, Hermione! Ron and I both have!" Harry shouted in a cracking voice, as tears began to fall down his face. "We've helped you, we've protected you! What has Malfoy ever done for you? He's teased, ridiculed, and insulted you all these years. And even now, how can you trust him? Do you honestly want to be with the guy who's caused you so much pain? He's using you and when he's done with you, he'll kill you!"
Hermione gasped and bit her lip seeing the Boy-Who-Lived breaking down in front of her.
"I don't want to lose you!" Harry sobbed.
Hermione blinked and her face softened as she looked at the dark haired young man.
"I...I love you Hermione!" Harry cried out.
Hermione's eyes widened at the words that had just left his lips.
"Harry..." She sobbed as she took a step towards him.
Draco scowled.
"Hermione..." Harry said warmly, as he opened his arms, gesturing her to him. "Come back to me."
She walked towards him slowly.
"Don't be stupid, Granger!" Draco snarled as he grabbed her hand. "You can't honestly want to be on his side!"
"How do you know what I want, Draco?" She hissed at him jerking herself from his grip.
His face darkened. "Because you want to be with me! You said so yourself!" he growled.
Her angry expression slowly changed to a smirk. "Maybe I did." she replied. Then she looked to the dark-haired young man. "But, to be honest, I made this decision long ago."
"What...what are you saying?" Draco growled as his expression grew cold.
"I'm saying that regardless of what's happened between us Draco, it means nothing. I swore a long time ago that I would be loyal to Harry and I'm standing by it till the end." she replied coldly.
Draco gasped as he watched her turn and walk into the arms of his dark-haired enemy.
"No!!" he screamed out enraged.
~*End Dream*~
Draco's eyes flew open and he sat up in bed, breathing heavily. His heart was racing. It was just a nightmare. He thought as he took a moment to catch his breath. Then he looked over at Hermione, who was still fast asleep. He was about to lay back down again when he heard the sound of what sounded like footsteps, walking in front of the bedroom door. Then suddenly they stopped. Already shaken from his nightmare, Draco slowly stood up. He pulled out his wand as he moved closer to the door. Then he quickly grabbed the knob and flung the door open. He looked around a moment, and then seeing nothing he closed it again. That's strange; I could have sworn that I heard something. He thought then he shook his head quickly. No, get a hold of yourself, Draco. You're still just shaken up by that dream. He thought. Then he put his wand back in his robe and rubbed his head. I can't sleep now. Ugh! d**n Potter invading my dreams like that! He mentally grumbled. Then he quietly opened the door and slipped out leaving the door slightly opened.
Draco slowly made his way down the stairs and plopped onto the couch in front of the fire. I can't help but wonder now. If it really did come down to me and Potter, who would Hermione pick? He thought as he sat there thinking. Then he glanced towards the door and raised a suspicious brow as he heard what sounded like footsteps right outside. Slowly, Draco got up and warily approached the door, listening for any unusual sounds. He then opened it and stepped out into the hall. He looked to the left then the right but it was quiet and very still with nothing seeming out of the ordinary.
Under his Invisibility Cloak, Harry watched as Draco opened the door and looked around the corridor. Harry realized this was his chance to get into the Head’s room; since he didn’t have access to the password. He also noted that the Polyjuice potion had worn off of Draco but that meant little to him at this point. Harry’s focus now was getting into the Head’s room and so he carefully tip-toed past the blonde Slytherin and slipped into the Head’s common room.
Draco suddenly felt a light breeze as if something was moving past him and silently gasped. He spun around and looked behind him, but nothing was there except for the door that he’d left wide open. With a heavy sigh he walked back into the room, making sure to securely close and lock the door behind him. I think I’m just paranoid about that dream. I need to relax. He thought as he made his way over and sat on the couch.
Harry breathed a sigh of relief as he quietly made his way up the stairs and towards Hermione’s room. I can’t believe that Hermione has stooped to this low. Harry thought as he stopped at Hermione’s door. Seeing it cracked open, he sighed in relief; glad that he wouldn’t have to worry about how to get in.
However, it doesn’t matter now because Hermione has already confessed her feelings for that Slytherin git. He thought with a bitter frown. Harry was certain that even after what had happened earlier, Draco would tell her everything. Malfoy must have blabbed the truth to her. And if she really likes that git then she'd believe him. He thought. Then he pulled his cloak off and walked towards the bed where Hermione lay asleep. He then stopped and stood there watching her, with a cold expression on his face. You're going to tell me the truth, Hermione. He thought as he carefully sat down on the edge of the bed. You're going to tell me whose side you're really on!
And then he pulled out his wand and waved it around the room. "Silencio!" he whispered loudly.
After he'd cast the spell, Harry reached down and shook the sleeping girl.
"Hermione!" he whispered.
She let out a light groan as she rubbed her eyes.
"Really Draco, can't you talk to me later?" She mumbled groggily with a slight giggle.
Her words made Harry's skin crawl. I'm not going to lose my temper. I'm not. He thought to himself trying to keep calm.
"Hermione, we have to talk." Harry said loudly.
Her eyes flew open and she gasped seeing the dark haired young man staring down at her.
"Harry? What are you doing here?" She snapped.
"I thought I would come and visit you." He replied sarcastically.
Suddenly, she remembered what Draco had told her earlier and scowled. "You have some nerve coming into my room!" She hissed.
"Well seeing as how you let that slimy Slytherin Malfoy, in without a problem, I thought certainly that you wouldn't mind me!" he snapped bitterly.
"Get out of here!" She yelled at him as she jumped up and pointed to the door.
"Not until I get some answers from you!" he growled. "You were there the night that Pansy was killed, weren't you?"
"I'm not telling you anything!" She hissed. Then she looked around as she suddenly realized that Draco wasn't there.
"Draco?" She asked looking around.
"He's downstairs in the common room." Harry said rolling his eyes.
She glared at him.
"You can call for him if you want but he won't hear you. I've placed a silencing charm on this room." he added quickly.
She cringed then spied her wand sticking out of the corner of her robe nearby. She made a dive for it, but Harry was already aware of what she was going to do, and he tackled her to the floor.
"Get off me!" She screamed as she wrestled with him.
"Not until you tell me what you've been hiding!" He snapped through a strained tone as he fought to pin her down. “This is a serious matter and-”
“Let go of me!” She shouted as she struggled harder; fighting against him.
“Hermione, I don’t want to hurt you but you need to tell me what-”
“I’m not telling you anything! How dare you play such a cruel joke on me! Draco told me everything!”
Harry glared at her as he tried to prevent her from escaping.
But she flailed wildly and it was all he could do to prevent her from hitting him.
"I'm not telling you anything!" She hissed as they rolled across the floor. "Especially after the way you treated me!"
"I had to make you think that I was Malfoy and...I admit that I went too far..." he replied trying to grab her hands, but she moved them too fast for him.
"You got that right, Harry!" She snapped breathing rapidly as she rolled on top of him.
"Look, all I want to know is the truth about Pansy's death. You were there! So you do know the truth!" he snarled.
"Why do you care? It's not like it's a big deal!" She snapped at him.
"Hermione!" He snarled as he finally grabbed her hands. Then he rolled her onto her back and pinned her down. She tried to break free but he was too strong. "Hermione, it is a big deal! Someone died!" he shouted at her.
Hermione…Hermione…are you in need of my help? A voice whispered in her head and she recognized it right away. But just as she was about to respond, she felt a strange feeling come over her.
"So, what if Pansy is dead?" She replied in a colder tone as she tried to break his grip. "It was...just...Pansy." she added, groaning as she struggled.
Harry looked at her in disbelief. Her sudden calmness was so sudden that it made him feel sick.
"How-how can you be so calm about this?" He asked. "How can you blow off the death of a fellow student so easily?"
"Well, because...she...was an enemy, and...She deserved it!" She snapped between groans as she continued to struggle.
His green eyes widened at the girl. He never thought he'd ever hear her say something like that. It was as if she’d suddenly become a completely different person.
Hermione looked at his expression and let out a small chuckle. "Really Harry, you're making too big a deal out of this whole thing." She said now with a somewhat amused look on her face.
His eyes slowly narrowed at her. "You think it's funny?" He snapped at her. "How would you like it if I decided to just go utter a Killing Curse at Malfoy? Would you find that funny?" He sneered.
Her amused expression quickly faded away and she glared at him. "Don't you dare!" She warned venomously. “Or it will be the last thing you ever utter!”
"Hermione, I want to know the truth about what happened that night. You can either tell me here or I can take you to McGonagall and you can drink some Veritaserum there!" he growled angrily.
She finally stopped struggling and looked away from him with a defeated frown on her face. "Fine, I'll talk." she mumbled dryly.
Harry nodded and loosened his grip a little.
"Good. Now, tell me what happened." He replied.
She took a deep breath then said, "Well, I was sitting alone at the Quidditch Pitch when Draco and Pansy showed up. I hid so that they couldn't see me. And..." She paused as she saw a familiar black book partially sticking out from under her bed. I wonder what that book is doing here? I thought that Draco put it in his room. She found herself thinking. Then she looked away from it so not to make Harry suspicious. Hmmm...maybe I can use it...she thought curiously.
"Well go on." He mumbled wanting to hear the story.
"Well, I will but the way your holding me is very uncomfortable, perhaps we can sit on the floor?" She said looking at him hopefully.
"Fine, we can do that but don't try anything, I mean it." He warned as he let go of her hands and allowed her to sit up.
She stretched her arms a moment and then scooted over, leaning against the bed just inches from the black book.
He sat close to her. "Now, go on." He gestured impatiently.
She nodded and then slowly reached down and picked the book up.
Immediately, Harry became suspicious.
"What's that?" He snapped.
"It's just my…um… diary. I forgot a lot of the things that happened so I need to look in here for them." she replied trying to sound confident.
He nodded then sighed as he watched her eyes skimming over the pages. "Here, I'll help you find it." he said reaching for it but she quickly snatched it away.
"No! A girl's diary is sacred." she retorted. "Besides I doubt that you want to read about my naughty little fantasies with Draco."
He gave her a disgusted look. She was relieved that he'd bought her lies; and even more once she'd found the page that she'd been looking for. "Here it is." she lied as she pretended to read out loud.
"On this fateful night Draco and I watched from the shadows as the green light flew out of nowhere and killed Pansy. The evidence that I hid is in Professor Snape's classroom in his Potion's closet wrapped in a red cloth." she said loudly, pretending to read; even using her finger to skim over the words so that her trick was believable.
"So, Snape's Potion closet huh?" Harry snapped jumping up.
"Yeah." She mumbled grimly. "Now get out!" She hissed.
"Oh I will, but you'd better not tell Malfoy that I was here." Harry said sharply.
"Oh I won't...because you will be the one to tell him!" She sneered as she jumped up holding the book.
"What?" He gasped in confusion as she jumped to her feet. Then she snatched up her wand before he could stop her.
"You tricked me!" He snarled as he lunged at her. But she dove out of the way causing him to run into the wall.
She waved her wand around and a blast from it vanquished Harry's silencing spell on the room.
Quickly, knowing she didn't have much time, Hermione looked down at the page in the book and chanted,
"Eyes of my enemy I command to be closed.
This night, this place no longer in your mind.
Memories of this night will not be so easy to find.
So close your eyes, and listen well
As on you, I place this spell!"
Harry's eyes widened in horror as a shroud of spectral, black shadows crept out of the page and danced around him slowly.
"Hermione...what are you..." He began but suddenly he found he couldn't speak, nor could he move.
Just then and eerie crimson light flew out of the book and circled around Harry's head.
Then followed by a gust of wind, it twirled around and flew into his open mouth. And then suddenly, all was still and quiet.
Hermione's eyes narrowed as she walked towards the now entranced Harry Potter.
"Harry? Can you hear me?" She asked softly.
"Yes." Harry mumbled in a monotone voice.
"Listen to me. You and I have just finished our homework. You'll be leaving now and going back to the Gryffindor common room." She said firmly.
He nodded slowly.
Suddenly her door opened and Draco strolled in. "Hey Granger, I thought I heard you talking to someone in here and..." He stopped as he saw the dark haired young man.
"Potter! What the bloody hell are you doing in here?" He snarled venomously, quickly drawing his wand.
"No wait Draco, don't!" Hermione snapped.
"What's he doing in here?" He sneered as he raised a suspicious brow at her.
"He snuck in here, under his Invisibility Cloak, and we had a confrontation, so I placed him under a spell!" She explained quickly.
"Spell?" Draco asked curiously. Then he spied the book in her hands. "Hermione...how did you get that? I took it from you!" He snapped.
She rolled her eyes. "I found it under the corner of my bed." She hissed quickly.
"You know that using those spells are dang-" he began but she quickly cut him off.
"I know they are dangerous, Draco. But if I don't put Harry under a strong spell, he will turn me in! Somehow he knows that I had something to do with Pansy's murder! I have to cast this enchantment on him or else he'll rat me out!"
"Well...what spell is it?" He mumbled curiously.
"Here, read this!" She replied quickly as she tossed the black book to him.
He caught it and read over the page that contained the spell, slowly.
Hermione then turned back to Harry who was standing there staring blankly at her.
"As I was saying Harry, you and I just got finished with our homework. You will be leaving to go back to the Gryffindor common room. And when you get there you will forget about tonight. And if Ginny or Ron asks you about tonight you will just shrug and say that it's nothing to worry about. Do you understand?" She asked.
"Yes." replied the dark haired young man.
Draco had an evil grin on his face as he finished reading. So he's entranced. This will be so much fun. An opportunity to control Potter like this, is something I just can't pass up. He thought as he arrogantly tossed the book onto the bed.
Hermione looked to him uneasily and sighed to herself. Uh oh, I just know that Malfoy is going to want to get in on this. She thought.
Draco looked to Harry with an evil smirk as he approached the Gryffindor. "Well well, the famous Harry Potter stands before me, so helpless and defeated." He drawled.
"Draco..." Hermione began firmly, but then she stopped.
He looked to her, almost obediently. "Yes, Granger?" He asked slowly, almost in an annoyed tone. He knew that she was about to tell him to back off, so he frowned slightly as he waited for the rest of her sentence.
At first, she was going to telling him not to interfere. But then she decided not to because, she wanted to see him be mean and cruel. And she wanted to see him bully Harry.
"Well?" Draco asked crossing his arms raising a brow, still waiting for her to finish her sentence.
"Well what?" She asked quickly.
"Well, aren't you going to tell me to back off?" He snapped coldly.
She thought a moment and then smiled to him. "I was..." She began watching him slowly frown. "But..." She added. "I'd rather see you take care of things."
"Really?" He asked in a surprised tone as his trademark smirk slowly crept across his face. She then walked up to him and kissed his cheek.
"Really." She replied with a nod.
Draco's ego soared and his cockiness quickly returned. Without wasting another moment, he got right up in Harry's face.
"Hey Potter, can you hear me?" he snapped rudely.
"Yes." Harry replied slowly nodded.
"Good, now listen up." Draco said firmly. "From now you are going to worship the ground that I walk on. You're going to do what I say from this moment on."
Harry nodded as the blonde Slytherin went on."For starters, when I say the word 'Butterbeer'; you will tell everyone how much you admire and look up to me. You will brag about me, especially when I'm around." He sneered.
Hermione gasped. "Whoa, wait! Hold on! You can't give him ridiculous commands like that!" She quickly scolded.
"And why not?" He snapped.
"Because you're supposed to be using the spell to wipe his mind of tonight, not filling his head with silly commands!" She replied sharply.
"Hey, you just said that you'd rather have me take care of things, Granger. And that's what I'm doing. I'm just doing it my way is all." He exclaimed frowning at her.
"Yes but you can't just make up a bunch of silly commands. You need to take this seriously, Draco. This isn't a game." Hermione scolded.
"Well my commands are just to add some spice to the spell's effects. Come on, lighten up a little." He replied rolling his eyes arrogantly.
"I thought you were going to come up with a better string of commands for wiping out his memory of tonight. You know, something more realistic?" she retorted.
"I am being realistic but..." He lowered his voice slightly as he looked at her with a longing gaze. "But... I also haven't forgotten what he did to you, how he hurt you." He added gently. "So, I'm getting him back by humiliating him like this."
"Draco, you don't have to do this for me..." Her voice trailed off as a look of awe spread across her face.
"Yes I do. And I'm going to show Potter what happens when he messes with my girlfriend!" He said, as his voice grew cold again.
Hermione blushed slightly at how he'd referred to her as his 'girlfriend' and smiled warmly.
"Now watch this." He said as he spoke one word. "Butterbeer." he said.
Immediately, Harry turned and looked to Draco. "Everyone should admire you, Draco. Being the great Slytherin that you are, I can't help but look up to you. I truly admire you." He said.
Hermione blinked rapidly.
Draco smirked then said, "Very good, Potter, now this time when I say the word 'Quidditch' you will fall to your knees and tell me that I am the best Quidditch player here at Hogwarts, understand?"
Harry nodded. "Yes." He replied monotonously.
"Good. So Potter, how do you like playing 'Quidditch'?" He asked grinning snidely.
Harry quickly dropped to his knees and bowed to him. "You are the best at Quidditch, Draco. You are the best player in this whole school!" Harry said, with a look of adoration on his face.
Hermione couldn't help but burst out into a fit of laughter at this. "Oh my gosh, Draco. You're such a bully." She said playfully.
"Hey, if you think that's good, just wait. I can do better." Draco bragged to her. And then he said to Harry. "Now Potter, from now on when I say the word 'Weasel' you will look at the Weasleys and tell them that they are poor, filthy, useless vermin that will never amount to anything."
Harry nodded obediently.
Hermione smirked slightly at hearing this.
"Why don't you give it a shot, Granger?" Draco asked looking to her.
"Me?" She asked hesitantly.
"Sure, why not? After all, this revenge is for you. Why not push your bookworm logics away for a while and just have some fun?" he asked.
"I wouldn't know what to say." She replied looking a bit uneasy. "Plus, I'm not good with bragging and insulting like you are." She added.
"Oh don't give me that!" He sneered rolling his eyes. "You know how to insult and you definately know how to brag. You've practiced both of those skills on me numerous times."
She chuckled lightly.
"Now come on, don't you want to have some fun? Think of the things that you could make him do. You could have Potter insult anyone you want." he bragged.
Just then a thought hit Hermione and she smirked slightly. "Maybe, I will command Harry to say one thing after all." she said.
Draco raised a curious brow.
"Harry," She began as he looked at her. "Whenever Ginny compliments you in any way, especially sweet talking, I want you to make a lot of crude, sexual remarks at her. You know, tell her things like you're only with her to get in her pants and stuff like that." She said. "And when she says the word love to you; you are to kiss Ron on the lips." she added.
Draco burst out laughing hysterically. "Hahaha d**n! And I thought my commands were mean." He laughed holding his sides.
"Okay, that's enough. I think we'd better send him away now." She said stifling her own laughter.
He nodded.
"Okay, now Harry you have your orders and you will not remember anything about this night at all, except for the commands that Draco and I have given you. Now, go." Hermione said firmly.
Harry nodded and then turned and left the room. The two walked out onto the balcony and watched him leave through the portrait door.
"I can't wait to see Harry make a fool of himself." She said giggling as she looked down at the empty common room.
Draco smirked and put his arm around her. "I look forward to it as well." he sneered in a low menacing tone.
Then they turned and went back into Hermione's room. As Draco plopped on the bed, he glanced to the clock. It read 4:22am.
"It's late; we'd better get what sleep we can." Hermione said as she lay down.
"You're right." He agreed as he lay down beside her.
She sighed then turned over on her side and looked to him.
He turned onto his side as well, looking at her.
"Are you okay?" He asked her in a voice just above a whisper.
"Yeah, I'm just thinking is all." She replied.
"About what?" He asked curiously.
"Well about you and...me...and if this is real or just a dream." she said slowly.
"Oh?" he asked raising a brow.
"I'm still having a hard time believing that you're really here. I'm afraid to find that this was all just a dream and that you won't be here when I wake up." she mumbled slowly.
He chuckled lightly as he brushed his bangs out of his eyes. "You think you're having a hard time believing this? Think about me. On top of everything you've done to help me, you go to my father and the Dark Lord on your own. And then, they actually approve of us being together. Plus you actually killed someone! You've done so much for me...how could I not want to be with you?" he said gently as he moved his hand up and placed it on top of hers; that was resting on her pillow.
She smiled softly as she closed her eyes.
"Everything's okay, Hermione. I'm right here beside you." He whispered softly as he shut his eyes.
Then they both drifted off to sleep.
